Anonymous, 19 Nov 2021A15 gimmick is nothing but benchmark champion in Geekbench ... moreAlso in geekbench 5, single core is used to measure gaming performance and that's why apple boasts about how pther competitors are still trying to keep up with a 2 year old chip the a13 bionic which has similar score to the sd 888 and plus in their event live stream

Anonymous, 19 Nov 2021A15 gimmick is nothing but benchmark champion in Geekbench ... moreThat's a lie. Not a apple fan but if you watch golden reviewer you know that it keeps steady 59-60 fps for a while then it throttles down to 34-50 range. It will keep 60fps for about 15-20 mins but with inadequate cooling it starts throttling

The box says "Built to power only the highest-end 5g smartphons around the world"🙄 I really expect the chip to be available on the high end affordable smartphone categories at least.

Scores 57fps vs 33fps on Snapdragon 888 in 3d mark, yet in real world heavy games like genshin impact and others, it barely reaches 50fps average framerate at the highest settings.
Even two year old Snapdragon 865 reached 55fps average framerate comfortably

            .So it means.
            Comparing Cortex X1 on 5nm (sd 888) vs Cortex X2 on 4nm:
            1. 35% more powerful : means Cortex X2 at 2.6 ghz will be 35 % more powerful than Cortex X1 at 2.6 ghz. In geekbench terms, Cortex X1 at 2.6 will give score of 800 and cortex X2 at 2.6 ghz will give 1025.
            2. 35% more efficient : means Cortex X2 at 2.4 ghz will give same performance as Cortex X1 at 2.6 ghz with 35 % less power. In geekbench terms both will give score of 800 but Cortex X1 will use 1.1 watt of power and Cortex X2 will use 0.9 watt.
Now comapring GPU. G710 mp10 in dimensity 9000 vs adreno 660 in sd 888.
            1. 60% more efficient : means adreno 660 give score of 117 fps on GFX bench ES 3.1 and consumes 8 watt of power. For the same 117 fps, g710 mp10 will use only 3.5 watt of power.( On par with a15 GPU, that gives 115 fps at 3.1 watts in low power mode)
            2. 35% more powerful : means if both adreno 660 and g710 mp10 were given same allotment of power , say 8 watts, adreno 660 will score 117 fps and mali g710 mp10 will score 160 fps.
            Hope this helps

Anonymous, 19 Nov 2021Mediatek D1200 didn’t even overheat, just suffers from weak... moreDimensity 1200 is perfectly capable of overheating.
The particular phone in question will determine whether it will overheat or not, depending upon cooling used inside.

Very excited for ARM9 based chips on next year's Android flagships.

Cortex X2 cores might actually reveal the real power of mobile chips.
The high performance cores from Apple are only benchmark champions with no sight of that performance in real world because Apple thinks proper cooling isn't important.

pangolinpanda, 19 Nov 2021MediaTek should work more on providing open source solution... moreWhat do you mean? They don't decide on the software. That's manufacturer led. If their chip is going in a xiaomi, it's going to use miui. Sorry you're not making sense.

So this is what competition looks like

                      This chip looks real serious

Mediatek haters are an endangered species

Year by year their talking points of overheating, bad gpu and weak ISP gets less and less relevant

                      Consumers win

pangolinpanda, 19 Nov 2021MediaTek should work more on providing open source solution... moreI'd agree it will benefit in term of customization but in reality it may bring new security threat. To be safe, what we can do is to feedback to the phone vendor and push them to fix the issue. I know, communities' people will hate me :)

8mb of L3 cache and 6mb of SL cache, Samsung and Qualcomm can't go below that, finally some competition in that regard.

MediaTek should work more on providing open source solutions for their hardware. The hardware is solid but the software could be better which would ultimately make them the better option to Qualcomm.
