I'd love to see a native RGB array version of this 200MP sensor with Nokia's PureView algorithm as in their flagship Symbian and Windows Phone smartphones. That can easily kill all the competition in one easy stroke.

With Vivo or Sony brand and decent new tele, I would buy. Wish it makes a way to mid range from xiaomi though, could be interesting next flagship killer if paired with good other fov.

Didn't they say it was this year?l, and had 16k video mode?
Well they need up to 2288mb/s to do a half descent job of 16k in h264, up to approx 572 in h266. In h267, which Samsung might be waiting for 286mb/s might be ok. 14 everything for h267. But these codecs are complex circuits. ProRes LT Braw, are a lot simpler, particularly cineform, captured by xiacom I think. They need external recording to add through USB C socket. A better simpler codec would aim at be 1/4 that.

Good! Samsung doesn’t need it in their terrible phones. Motorola is a great choice. Hopefully they’ll put it in the RAZR phone.

200 Mpix sensor suggests 5x5 Bayer sensor layout with intrinsic 5x lower noise and 200/25=8 mPix image file size. Could be not only super quality but also would not need much of image processing -- think 8k vids at high rates

How much plastic or glass lenses resolve is a mystery even the best optical scientists can't really answer. Plastic, will obviously resolve less though the only question is how much less.
Higher resolution sensors need better CFAs, sharper lenses and more complex algorithms to ensure that the higher resolutions is not wasted in detail loss.
More importantly, sensor makers need to make more sensors like the Samsung 50MP Sensors, made specifically with features for upressing photo, by 2x or 4x, better than regular upressing algorithm software.

Sharpening cannot magically create details out of nowhere. If you're seeing any resolved patterns, then they are the information captured by the camera itself, and not something that have suddenly appeared after the post-processing stage.

Mind explaining to me how sharpening somehow enabled S21+ and Mate X2 to resolve texts, hairs of the brushes, wooden textures on the pencils and line patterns better than 5D Mk. III did? Heck, do you even understand what sharpening does to an image? For goodness sake..

Anonymous, 24 Nov 2021Have never read so much crap.
- plastic lenses are crap... morePlastic lenses are cheaper to produce in a smaller form factor and allow for more complex surface designs, which is crucial for smartphone cameras where light needs to be bent in a precise manner in much shorter distances. They are less durable (hence need to be thicker than glass ones when the diameter is large, which in turn makes them bulkier) and also slightly less transparent in theory, but plastic is still used for some aspherical elements in IRCs. For instance, in Nikon's Hybrid Aspherical Lenses or PAG Hybrid Lenses, plastic is molded onto a spherical glass lens to form an aspherical lens.
Whether the lens is made of plastic or glass does not determine the resolving power of the lens. If it's designed well then it may be capable of resolving >50MP resolution, especially towards the center.
Why do you think Mi 11 is showing moire/false patterns in GSMArena's balcony shot? Because the lens resolution is higher than the sensor resolution, which is 27MP. Why is it that Huawei's recent flagships can achieve almost lossless 2x digital zoom? Why does S21's 64MP camera absolutely demolish Canon 5D Mk. III in the "good light" studio comparison? Maybe, just maybe, because plastic lenses *don't* suck? For once, could you just look into the actual image samples before saying something, please?
