Not even Sony fans buy Sony phones anymore...
Sony is a dying brand in the mobile world. They announce a phone (already late comparing to other brands on the same hardware), and instead of putting it right to the market, they wait for another 4-5 months, until all people buy something else.

A... morein 2013 Xperia division lost close to billion dollars despite selling close to 40 million units. Back then Xperia was LG of today, selling great numbers but bleeding money and hardware quality of their devices was utter shit but software developed in Europe (calendar, email, messages, album, music) was top notch.
It's not until XZ Premium that their quality started to get better and better. Pinnacle of their hardware design and hardware build fit and finish quality was XZ2 Premium. With Xperia 1 build quality has backtracked a little bit in order to cut costs but it got a lot better on Xperia 1 III. I still don't feel there is a great amount of GG coating both front and back like there was on XZ2/XZ2 Premium.
PRO models of Xperia most likely don't even come from Xperia team responsible for 10/5/1. These phones are so fundamentally different that it feels like some people outside of Xperia development are modifying current Xperia models. Again original PRO is different from PRO-I as well. It looks like PRO was developed by video broadcasting camera people while PRO-I was developed by RX Cybershot people.

They sold huge amount of phones annually but they didn't make any profits and that's why they shut down it's mobile division. They simply couldn't restructure it's mobile phone business because they were too tied up with OEMs, they couldn't find their focus in the market. They wanted to compete in both flagship and cheap OEM markets and they lost that race. Sales don't mean profits as you can see in LGs case. You know which other brand doesn't make any profit nor sales? OnePlus. They shifted strategy from affordable flagships to cheap phones and if that doesn't work for them it's doors closed.

They don't really excel at much, advertise their "special" target, or properly release it.

Sony ceo never said a lot of things, what is ur point here? They are making profits, they shifted their business strategy and are slowly coming back. You don't just turn years of loss into extremely high profits within fewer years of the loss incurred.

Xperia pro is 1800$...one can save up for a few months and buy it but choose not to as they'll rather buy a vivo X70 Pro Plus which destroyed this overrated garbage and nailed almost every challenging shot that this was supposed to better at. Even the Raw output was better on the Vivo.
