In Tablets nothing comes close to iOS. Phones its a different story. But I would only buy iOS or Android. Windows Phone is not good enough with appropriate market.

This notion that iPhone's are "expensive" and for the "elite" couldn't be any more false. Especially in the USA, where they can be had for a low as $0 - yes, free on contract.

I admit that some Andorid phones are better than iPhone 5.
But on the tablet area, iPad 4 rules by a long way.

We are not talking about the profits here.
The number of devices being activated on android is more than IOS.

sour_grapes, 14 Dec 2012Apple makes more money than Samsung, HTC.....combined? Sam... moreTo make it a meaningful comparison, you would have to compare Apple's revenue associated with the iPhone to the revenue derived from all Android devices from all manufacturers (Samsung, HTC, Motorola, Sony, Huawei, etc.) plus the revenue Google derives from Android. That would provide a one to one comparison of the two platforms, from a monetary perspective. And that I suspect would dwarf Apple's iPhone related revenue. Just because Apple tries to control everything and take all of the money for itself, doesn't mean there is more revenue associated with the iPhone than with Android. With Android the revenue is spread out over many different companies, so you have to keep that in mind. But it is usually overlooked when people make these types of comparisons.

Some how I feel that Apple is busy in Innovation; the rest are either trying to compete or to reach to Apple's level of technology...They are not trying to do better than Apple, but to reach where Apple leaps to.

So, again it comes down to war between Apple and an opponent. I never owned an Apple product myself but I do admire those guys for staying strong in the business. Any business, whether it's PC, mobile or a simple iPod.

Google turning into the Microsoft of this decade - the incumbent and dominant OS - with over 75% market share on the smartphones' market for the coming year - BUT saying than Google is for 'FREE' is just a wrong assertion from the posts below - Google is for profit - huge profits - on search, advertising by profiling users to every extend they could - extracting from teh whole ecosystem and leaving the hardware space (smartphones' vendors) fighting for low profit or losses.

The two operating systems are different experiences. Android is winning in numbers, yes, but Apple still commands a loyal following due to the user experience, and snob factor. The Iphone is a good phone, that does what it needs to well (apart from Maps, until yesterday). Android is only winning because it is open source and used on so many more handsets than apple (which has caused quite a few headaches for google as well). If google had followed Apples route and sold android only on a google phone, they wouldnt be nearly where they are today, purely because the operating system took time to get to the good product it is today. I would say that google has only really been a good system since gingerbread. Androids popularity has been fuelled by the decent progression of the system, peoples desire for more ability on phones with more communication and social integration, the fact that apple costs an arm and a leg to own (which i just cant justify anymore, when google is releasing good nexus products for much cheaper prices), and other decent choices for smartphone operating systems have been scarce to nil until now.
My point is that its not a level playing field. And to compare directly and say one group is winning, doesnt seem right to me.

Of course android should and will reign. How would the world be if we had many Steve Jobs? I think we need more Erics than greedy individuals who only think of their fu##n pockets . Google even helps to develope future programmers by giving open sources platforms. What bout apple? Even microsoft Learn't from suns (java) goin open in some ways
