i've been a happy ad free customer with All my previous xiaomi phones (and there had been/are many of those used), and all had always been setupped to not enable ads in any of the core apps. Why it still shows up is a mystery though

Love xaomi went from some Samsung to oppo for better value now switched to xaomi for even better value the NOTE 10s in pebble white is a amazing phone sexy to look at and very fast with a great screen and under £200 who needs flagships these days this phone gets more attention than my old S10 .

They've got to earn somehow.

We can dont like some companies, but dont bring whole damn country to it, if you think that China is bad and it spy... go look at US or Australia before you start that war, Like seriously, in terms of how much government try to influence companies and people, china is actually average at best.
As for Xiaomi? company as any other really.
Poco x3 pro is good phone and you need to be blind to not see that, no one is saying that its perfect or superb but its good. For that price you get bunch of stuff that you cant get even on some flagship(IR blaster, stereo speakers, damn minijack). If you want device for show off, get iPhone or Samsung Flip... if you want cheap fast device with pretty good camera dont mind picking poco x3 pro.
And ads on system? you can disable them with literally picking two option on system setting...
