no matter what is the law.
it may be unlocked for all countries. But if it requires you to sign a long plan before taking the iphone 3g out of store, it is the same as the locked function.

                      (sorry for my poor english)

Why dont you just buy it and then cancel your service? ATT charges you a $200 etf, then the phone is $400 and $500 respectively. That was tough. Hmmm...seems odd that the original was about 400 or 500 bucks...not brain surgery.

but how many countries offer wifi as a cell tower broadcast? certainly not here in NZ, though we do have 3G on 2 networks now, 900/2100. Woohoo! Go Vodafone. Shame the only phone currently available for use on the 900 network is the nokia 6121 HSDPA.
Ooooh wait I get a new one free for work use!!!! yay!

In belgium the phone won't be simlocked because it interferes with the law, and the belgian government already sued apple for this and won. So if you want a simlock free iphone, not expensive, get it in belgium."

First, GSMArena did a great job on their research. They had the IPHONE Info minutes after Steve Job Annonced the "Iphone 3G". Second, theirs no way your crappy goverment sued Apple when Apple was not selling their IPHONES to any other company execpt AT&T in the USA. And if they did sue them, why would Apple plan to sell the IPhone 3G to your country?

I don’t know if you guys can recall when Iphone first release (before the Iphone‘s unlocking era). It was $499 for 4 GB and $599 for 8 GB with a signed 2-years contract. What’s worst? Only one plan offered for this phone is $95/month from AT&T. You can’t pick nor pay any different, period. If I do my math right, first gen. Iphone is equivalent $95x24 + $599 = $2879. Holy S**T, $2879??? And what happened? 700,000 units sold within first week. I have to wait 3 hours in line to get it. It sold out nation-wide for most of the times. Now, for only $199, you can get the new release/better one(you can’t even get that deal for an old/used nokia 8800). Service plan drops down to $40+$30 (3G) = $70. Total? $199+$70x24 = $1879. Did you see the number? $1000 off the first release price. Seriously??? A stupid nokia 8800 arte plus a 2-years service plan w/o 3G(this is a bare minimum, standard gsm for it to works, no 3G, NOTHING) already accumulated $40x24 + $950 = $1910. Tell me; How can you ever compare Iphone to those blood-suckers Nokia, Samsung, and SE? Stop hating Apple just because your country can’t afford to offers the same deal. For those fortunate ones, Enjoy your new Iphone this summer. I know I will get one ( hahaha).

How about you buy the iphone for 200, then a month later you port your number or cancel your contract. That would make it 200+175 cancellation fee + a month of service(which you would probably already be paying). If you can unlock it you can still probably make a profit!

3G or HSDPA is not as fast as WiFi. On 3G at most u can get 384 kb/s and on HSDPA you would be lucky if you reach 3.6 Mb/s threshold. Nevertheless, as far as I know, the companies restrict your service to browsing or FTP (at least here in UK!!). So if you think you would watch youtube or any other streaming sites on 3G, it’s still like a dream.

If it really is £99 im going to buy it with out a doubt but i want to pay as you go version which i recon will be alot more money but apperently there is a special sim card for it. They probably make you top up so much or they lock it or something.
