But the phone surprised everyone by being a very stable performer under heavy tasks.

The camera hardware is good but end result is quite bad. Thermal management is almost non-existent.

Can we just bring back the headphone jack and expandable storage and keep it? *sigh* p.s. if you want to use Bluetooth headphones no worries! They will still magically work even if your phone has a headphone jack ;) and you will still be able to use the backup 3.5mm headphone incase you loose the wireless headphones of yours. Also think about it this way, they are following suit with apple and doing everything to switch us to some sort of monthly subscription and no one seems to care or notice.

As u said proper cooling is neccesity, asap you open a game and if this game is using UE it will sip battery and heat up like crazy. And SD it seems it has problems.
Meanwhile non compact handsets doesnt have much issues. Ppl say Xiaomi X3 Pro is bulky..but SN inside works always really cooly.

Anonymous, 19 Dec 2021We're not in 2017 anymore. Cooling systems matter A LO... morePhones are small and they are enclosed anyway. Yes cooling system matters but not a lot.
If Samsung and Apple only used a single stack PCB (but they had to save space and used double stacked PCB, which traps more heat) and resort to just one thermal pad it would sustain performance very well. No need for lots of thermal paste, cooper chambers etc. But that being said. iPhone sustained performance is still quite good.
I think the SD Gen 1 is really terrible. I don’t know about the Snapdragon fanboys saying this is better than Mediatek’s D9000 or especially Apple A15. It is not.

X2 on 8 Gen 1 consumes even more than X1 on 888!...perfs/W is 49% better on D9000!
A710 on 8 Gen 1 consumes even more than Cortex A78 on 888!...perfs/W is 40% better on D9000!
Prepare for worst thermal behavior than 888!
You're not in US and needn't mmwave, D9000 will be the best soc of 2022!

Anonymous, 19 Dec 2021Cooling system doesn’t matter too much on a smartphone, but... moreWe're not in 2017 anymore. Cooling systems matter A LOT nowadays due to the huge performance gains that are made every year that consume more energy and generate more heat, and with the compact form factor of smartphones, there is no efficient way to spread the heat to lower temperatures, which is why OEMs resort to different cooling systems to achieve acceptable thermal performance. From silicone thermal pads, to heat absorbing copper pipes to even fans with the more extreme "gaming" phones, cooling systems are becoming an undisputed necessity for a phone to avoid thermal throttling. And by the way, the vast majority of phones also tend to have a general hot spot on the back, and it's mostly near the cameras, where the SoC lays, so it's not only iPhones that have that sort of thing. It's less noticeable on other devices thanks to the cooling mechanisms that are put in place to improve thermals and improve the user experience when holding the phone horizontally (landscape orientation).
Concerning the Motorola Edge X30's bad thermals, they're mostly due to the 8 Gen 1. MediaTek's PR manager said earlier that there's only one company that's struggling with thermal throttling and it's not MediaTek, hinting at Qualcomm. It turns out he was right, so far. His claims are still up for debate though, until the Dimensity 9000, 8000 and 7000 either prove or disprove his claims.

I'll be waiting for Xiaomi, how they will manage their device price tht equip with S8G1 & Dimensity 9k.
But other than that, how they will handle their upcoming MIUI 13, will be the final decision before purchase

It does not get warm at one spot unlike an iPhone (its heatpad/spreader is ineffective) or a Pixel (worst thermals).

Poor camera performance too
Motorola rushed to be the first at the expense of optimization
And they didn't use proper cooling system trust me the 8 gen 1 needs it
