George399, 30 Dec 2021Why you don't have the money? I meant, there's no reason for me to spend 800/1000 euros on a phone when today it's possible to get a fantastic "flagship killer" like the Nord 2, for half the price! I'm not a mobile "gamer" and I don't take many photos, so do the math :)

            QSD 865 5.08 / 1.99 = 2,55

Much higher than A15-P (only 2.13). Phones with S865 were the last not overheating. S888 overheat at 3.88W, I can't image how hot is A15-P at 4.77W.

Anonymous, 30 Dec 2021According to some tech sites, Snapdragon really dropped the... moreYes you are right, but the reason for this is the poor 4nm manufacturing process of Samsung chips. sd865 was fine cause it made on TSMC. Since sd888 Qualcommn moved to Samsung chips and here is the result - overhitting throttling chips(and poor yields according to rumors).
when Qualcommn realized their mistake is was too late because TSMC factories are fully focoused on making chips for Apple and MT chips bottom line is Qualcommn supplies bad chips.

MagicMonkeyBoy, 30 Dec 2021The 8Gen1 is a huge improvement over the 888+ The thrott... moreNot at all. Did you even read the official announcement from ARM ?

Usually ARM's official figures are outside of achievable, and this time the figures were pretty low. On top of that, the figures (for X2, A710, and A510) they used were for a build with full-cache and latest lithography, compared to a (X1, A78, A55) design with less cache and lower lithography.

So based on those estimates, we can expect a reduction in both Performance and Efficiency. This is possible. It happened back in 2015, when we had the troublesome QSD 808 and QSD 810, which were less then impressive compared to the likes of last years QSD 801 and QSD 805. And looked stupid next to the Exynos 7420.

I think this first-generation design for ARMv9 is poor. We will have to wait for the European Team, to see what they bring to the table for Gen-2 (X3, A730). It is likely that these will be printed on more mature +3nm node as well. So for my money, I would NOT buy a phone in 2022, and instead I would wait for 2023. By that time, Google would've also made some tweaks and improvements for Android.

...but what I'm really hoping for is to get rid of these small cores (Cortex A53, A55, A510). I hope ARM can do something LIKE a Cortex-A73, but miniaturised, and on the latest spec. We need to have a "medium core" that is Out-of-Order to replace these In-Order "small cores". They add a lot of latency into the SoC, and aren't as efficient as you might think. Apple's custom small cores might use x2 more energy, but they are x4 faster in performance. This makes them much much more responsive AND efficient.

Mediatek hopefully really achieves something new here, but their lack of support to soc software development is uninspiring. I've seen only helio g90t in Note 8 Pro got executive 2 os upgrade, never see any other manufacturers had gone the same length. They mostly just got 1 os update and that's it, or worse.
