So I have been using the ROG 5 base model which I bought in India for 50k (672$) and i will say the camera is no where near flagship. Asus needs to work on camera department for sure and need to step up to a QDHD resolution. That would make a difference in gaming experience and will give u a premium flagship experience. Even tho ASUS never tries to compete against Samsung or Apple, they should make a Flagship killer at lesser price than those useless Apple iphones which i never liked. If Asus kan give ROG 5 ULTIMATE at 80k INR with 18gb Ram and 512 gb internal, then i think they can skimp onto those extra rams and step into camera department.

They told zenfone 8 coming o india soon in month of July or august. It never launched. And expensive phones like asus rog phones are launched in Indian market without much delay. Pretty bad marketing despite having one of the best laptop & other pc peripherals market.

in the end it's a cold balance between price and quality and personal preferences. I have high hopes from the next Rog Phone especially since this segment has more and more strong competition.

qasar80, 06 Jan 2022about the very much overpriced Rog Phone...I tested the 5s ... moreReally? It's a no notch 144hz display, a 3.5mm jack with ESS Sabre ES9280AC Pro Quad DAC, the side usb is usb 3.1, and depending on where you live, it's not more expensive than a OnePlus 9 (base variant starts at $672 in India). All these features (along with air triggers as mentioned) really add to gaming experience. You get arguably the best sound output, a full view screen, good battery like with sustained gaming performance, and you can charge the phone without obstructing your fingers.

Asus really wants fans to buy their Kunai gamepad so it makes sense they make zero efforts to support a competitor brand's product. It sucks but that's how the market works.

qasar80, 06 Jan 2022about the very much overpriced Rog Phone...I tested the 5s ... more"About gaming power, it's nothing real above any Snaodragon 888" that's the misconception about gaming phones. it's not necessarily about pure processing power, it's the experience. as what Michael Fisher pointed out, gaming phones are just as capable as any other flagship but what makes them arguably better is the way it lets you play games. recounting my original reply, I specifically featured additional buttons/triggers that practically makes major differences with my playthrough w/my phone. not once I mentioned about it being more powerful than other phones, that's not the point. what's more significantly important to me are controls, sustained performance and battery life

why would you buy the Razer Kishi when you have the Kunai Gamepad controller? I understand preferences but that's a very small usage scenario

now, what I definitely agree with you is the fact that the ROG Phone series 5 is overpriced. $800 as the starting price compared to before is just...wrong. so, yes, I agree with your sentiment that I wish the next ROG Phone isn't overpriced

Let's go Asus you're in the right path, zenfone 8 was very good! Only you can fight the big boys...

JustSomeRandomGuy, 06 Jan 2022"And by gaming phone I do not mean those air triggers ... moreabout the very much overpriced Rog Phone...I tested the 5s and as a phone in general it;s just average in every way. About gaming power, it's nothing real above any Snaodragon 888, much cheaper ones even. I hope they will make it a flagship in every aspect, not just price and marketing and I will surely buy one. I do not know what controllers you refer to, but that usb jack is off center and it's not compatible with most controllers, like Razer Kishi.

qasar80, 06 Jan 2022I hope Asus will change their path with the Rog Phone ...ve... more"And by gaming phone I do not mean those air triggers and fancy names for some cooling shit," I define a gaming phone if it actually helps me enjoy gaming more than just a conventional smartphone. I don't know about you but Air Triggers DO make me enjoy a hell more on gaming and I refuse to buy another phone without such shoulder triggers. I've been playing a lot of games through emulation such as PSP and PS2 emulation and those Air Trigger on my ROG Phone 2 made a world of difference.

" just a phone with good display, compatibility with other controllers and a good control of the temperature" I don't know what you're talking about. high refresh rates with quality displays are staple of gaming phones, at least, w/the ROG Phone series. and their active cooler that comes in the box helps w/temp control for sustained performance. also, they are compatible with every controller I tried

not sure why are you complaining

I hope Asus will change their path with the Rog Phone ...very expensive phones, with weak cameras and some features that look nice only on paper, no use in real life. Not to speak about the gaming gadgets, also very very expensive each with only those made by Asus being compatible and the quality of those...well, not very good. I have decided to buy this year a gaming phone, that is most useful for me, so cameras are not a must, but the rest is. Let's see what the market brings. And by gaming phone I do not mean those air triggers and fancy names for some cooling shit, just a phone with good display, compatibility with other controllers and a good control of the temperature.

If the cameras are not protruding and they keep the screen at 6.1 max, then it can be THE mid phone of the year

i would like a new design for the zenfones

Wow... And remember that the 8 Gen 1 has a more powerful GPU than the A15... And once Android and there apps are all optimized on the 8 Gen 1...wow!!! Really. And that GPU is really something... Really. And by the way Genshin impact on the iPhone 13 pro max reaches Temps of 45 degrees. And... Throttles quite a bit... Although the efficiency is good. The throttling is something. The 8 Gen 1 even when throttling delivers better frame rate over the A15.
