AnonD-986504, 26 Jan 2022But they have consistently performed better than Qualcomm o... moreMan you funny.
Performance on paper is way better i agree but long time run and real life experience.
For example if i run Clash of Lords 2 game on android flagship device or even my Xiaomi Mi 11 lite 5G game is great even when playing for 4 hours in a row.
Run same thing on Apple and after one hour your phone will overheats and in next hours will lagg like hell untill battery dies.

All that benchmark scores are clueless becuase ona long time run many Adroid phones with great cooling mechanisms like Nubia red magic 7, Bkackshark by Xiaomi or even a non gaming android phones withflagship grade CPU preforms way better than apple could ever imagine.
In case of this said game Clash of lords 2 for example on my Xiaomi MI 11 lite 5G i can play for 6-7 hours until battery dies. In case of apple it dies in maybe 2-3 hours.
In case of Oukitel WP15 i can run aśame game for whole day i mean 24 hours and still will have enough juice in my cell phone to do daily routine for next 1-2 days.

AnonD-731363, 25 Jan 2022They are always overhyped. Even apple said that once. But they have consistently performed better than Qualcomm or Mediatek in every metric for the past few years, i think the recognition as of now is well deserved.

Plastick is plastick, 26 Jan 2022APPLE / sammy can go back to below spec and maintain usd$ ... morewell sure, i agree with you, and even the manufacturers know it, they also want to make profits, thats y they are making these awful phones.

features cost them 25-50$, allow them to bump up the prices 300-500$ (~500$ smartphone now selling for aorund 800$, and what used to the flagship 600$ now selling for around 1100$).
so their profit margins are much better with "little features".

            my ideal phone.
            - good CPU, not snapdragon crap
            - display, oled FHD min (2k is also really good, lg g7 i used), remove all the dolby crap, this that, vision, atmos, etc etc (got into lots of problems, some apps supporting them, some movies look worst with dolby vision, coz the phones process it differently)
            - good bright 1300nits HDR(hdr is also shit with all the different versions of hdr floating around) capable display
            - headphone jack please, costs pennies and saves the day when needed
            - fast charging (oppo 60-80w charging in 30 mins is great) (5000 mah) USB C (apple)
            - OS... tied between apple eco system, but then its too controlling, no chromecast support, no sideloading apps, and androidOS with not good update support, but hey 5 years old phone still works good without updates so its ok.
            - IP68 , helpful when sometimes it gets wet.
            - camera, yes just 1 lens. best you can put. looks great and works great
            - fingerprint, on the power button maybe or back side
            - nfc, not needed but hey it only costs pennies why not, in some places its really useful

we don't even need anything this powerful but mobile devs for years have stopped optimizing and keep relying on more powerful hardware to chug through awful code. And now with the whole "let's put a whole camera in the phone" fad, prices can artificially be jacked up even more. let's not forget the great ram heist of 2017 either. the markets are still overpriced from that successful manipulation. a good smartphone these days with all the bells and whistles, a flagship should cost no more than 300 usd. kinda just hoping the markets collapse on themselves. stupid companies

TheLastOracle, 25 Jan 2022Hopefully some of the performance advantage translates into... moreSoftware has mow come to the point where we need to develop more powerful hardware to even run it or at least make the most out of it. So it is definately going to help if our new chips are beefier so that the to be implemented algs can be processed faster and more efficently and accurately.

abasu007, 25 Jan 2022Hi all, just a really quick question. Why do Snapdragon/Ex... moreOne of the reasons js the fabs at which these chips are made at, TSMC or Samsung. TSMC being the better one.
Another reason is Apple's ungodly vertical integration, since they make every single compotent that goes into their phone including the software, it really becomes easy for them to optimise and take control over the battery usage of the phone and its efficeincy. Another demo of this integration is Apple's M1 Pro and M1 Max macbook pros, insane battery efficeincy for the kind of performance they churn out.

Exciting to see how the competition is heating up in the microchip scene, i really hope it heats up in the fab scene as well, TSMC's monopoly over the market is really bad. I am aware that Samsung also has fabs for mobile microchips, but theirs always turn out with thermal constraints and horrible throttling issues (I am looking at you Qualcomm.).
Overall, great development by Mediatek in the past few years, if tsmc increases their capacity and some new contenders come into fhe fab buissness with actually good processes and products i think we're set!
