Shanti Dope, 25 Jan 2022That's thanks to the larger die sizes that Apple uses ... moreThings looking great, because design and R&D wise, Qualcomm is better than Mediatek. However Mediatek still scores better due to TSMC process and most importantly, isn't far off A15.
As things stand, Qualcomm goes back to TSMC, with it's better design and R&D, it could realistically beat Apple A16 or whatever their next flagship is. I think it'll definitely beat in terms of multicore performance. Single core performance is positively correlated with die size, so Apple may retain lead in that, but Qualcomm will get very close too, and as you said, it's better in per area of die. It won't be wrong to say, a TSMC-produced 8 Gen 2 would overall be a better chip that A16.

Hi all, just a really quick question. Why do Snapdragon/Exynos, etc have so many problems with heating, battery consumption, etc? This may be over simplifying things, but how can Apple do it with the A15, etc, but these over SOC manufacturers struggle so much?

Anonymous, 25 Jan 2022Will it sustain that performance under heavy use? Not likely.LMAO you think this is the 8 gen 1
Mediatek went for sustainable efficiency having about 50% more cache for the CPU
And have the best TSMC nm process to back it up
Early test already is 40% more efficient than the configuration in the 8 gen 1 WITH higher clock speeds on the cores

still miles behind A15 (and I suppose things will get significantly worse when it comes to efficiency/power draw), but a nice progress anyway.

Well next mediatek CPU will outbeat even Apple and in 5-10 years exynos as the worst CPU will be only described in the history books.

Like they've said Geekbench benchmark are all gimmicks what matters the most is actual performance and also mostly Operating System of the phone.. you don't base the phone base of the stupid benchmarks and Geekbench marks just saying

Both good at their respective places, the fact that CPU get upgraded on phones makes it better than the previous phones in performance rather than competing with PCs ,
Ps:- No phone processor from the beginning till the current ones can beat a PCs CPU as they're more powerful to powerup a 10-15 pound Monitor and CPU

Shanti Dope, 25 Jan 2022Yeah maybe you're right. But we're only seeing th... morecpu wise dimensity will lead but thats because of higher clock. Middle cluster of dimensity 9000 is clocked 2.85ghz and 8 gen 1 is clocked 2.5ghz. We dont know how it will throttle though, because its almost impossible to sustain 4 cores three at 2.85ghz and one at 3.05 ghz.

Hemedans, 25 Jan 2022No way for a phone to remain cooler at 6 watts, lets wait a... moreYeah maybe you're right. But we're only seeing their power consumption on a test that's heavily graphics reliant rather than CPU, so it's logical that the two are nearly on par with each other. The GPU performance of the two won't be so much different, but the CPU is definitely an advantage for the Dimensity. I just realized this after taking another look at that video, and I forgot to see that the tests were mostly graphics-heavy and not so much on CPU, other than the GeekBench benchmarks.

Dimensity 9000 almost catching up with the A15 in the multicore wow...impressive. I was tired of seeing Android SoC's in the 3000's for years now, stagnated. At last someone ups the game to the 4000's...

Hemedans, 25 Jan 2022The first video from Dimensity 9000 shows sometime its litt... moreIt's already a given for any SoC to have the tendency to overheat and thermal throttle sometimes. The thing here is that the Dimensity 9000 is much easier to deal with because its peak power consumption is lower than SD8Gen1, and while I can't speak for temperature levels for now, I would highly bet that the Dimensity would be way cooler when running on such wattage levels thanks to the TSMC's superior fabrication process, along with larger cache size that allows more information to be processed for a given time, therefore reducing the power consumption for CPU.
