HTC CEO blames poor marketing for 2012 results

he first says that problem was marketing oriented and then he says he will focus o product innovation. I kinda lost the CEO there, surely if he believes that problems should be fixed shouldnt he focus on marketing?

Now on topic, I must admit, their marketing was trash. I was waiting on the One X on Tmobile US and they decide, hmmm... Lets give that exclusively to AT&T.
Had they have done like Samsung and brought it to ALL MAJOR US CARRIERS, They would've sold more.
Now, on to the next problem at this Quietly Brilliant company. Their Slogan. "Quietly Brilliant". The problem is in that alone. How can anybody know what you're doing if you're "Quietly Brilliant"?
Honestly I believe it must've been a typo for the real slogan "Quite Brilliant".
Now onto the next problem. NO SD CARD SLOT, REMOVABLE BATTERY AND SUPER SMALL BATTERY SIZE!!!
This is a MAJOR problem especially seeing as how HTC continues to use as little Storage space as possible on their phones.
I don't know what it's going to take for HTC and GOOGLE to get it into their thick skulls that MORE PEOPLE USE SD CARDS AND NOT EVERYBODY LIKES USING THE CLOUD FOR STORAGE!!! The cloud uses data to redownload your files from it which will cause you to hit your cap faster.
Then the MAJOR issue with the Cloud. YOU CAN'T RECORD VIDEO DIRECTLY TO IT!
I do alot of video recording and it's a pain when you're trying to record your good friend's Graduation or another very important ceremony and you are doing a great job getting lots of footage and halfway through it, you get the notification "Low on Storage Space. Please delete some files to make room" or your camera starts skipping frames and freezing due to low storage space.
See that happens when you have no sd card option. I know I fill up 16GB in about 2 to 4 days.
With an Sd Card option, I can buy me a 64GB SD card, pop that sucker into my phone and record hours of HD Video and more likely than not, record everything that I wanted to record and have that memory captured with no notification of low storage space.
Then there's Sense. Sense is a good UI, BUT it's unnecessarily Resource hungry. They seriously need to utilize their Overlay and make it waaayyy less power hungry especially if they're going to cheap out and use a craptastic battery.
I can say one thing though. They marketed the crap out of the unnecessary One X+ on youtube.
I swear I was getting sick of seeing that advertisement for the One X+ with more battery and more processing power before every video but even still, they still didn't bring it to all major carriers.

Its funny how some people comment here that the HTC CEO is making marketing a scapegoat. The CEO will be privy to the mountain of info like none of us will have access to. Hence I will go with what the guy is saying.
Anyways, I own a HTC One X, and I can vouch for the fact that the HTC marketing was NOT AT ALL up to the mark in India, and even on the net where the buzz around 1X came down pretty fast inspite of rocker of a phone.
I chose HTC 1X after a lot of study and research for months, and now after 10 months of using it, I just thank god that I made a very good choice in buying 1X, and not the iPhone or the Galaxy S3 or Note.
All my interest in iPhone and Samsung phones has actually died down, as I quite have everything I need in my 1X, and many features are much better too about the 1X.
I saw some people voice some concerns about HTC, so here is my experience in using the HTC 1X; hope its handy:
1) Lack of memory card slot - with 34GB onboard memory I haven't felt any need for a memory slot yet. I still have 15GB free after 10 months of use.
2. No Removable battery - this doesn't really bother me, and frankly after 10 months of using HTC 1X, I dont understand why this point is such a big thing at all!! No removable battery is really ok guys. Believe me.
3. Poor battery - my 1X last full 24 hrs of lot of calls & sms'. Little browsing. 1 hr of mails. It doesn't go beyond 24 hrs. Charging is needed at night for 3 hrs.
All my previous phones (Nokia, Samsung, LG), gave the same talk time! So, you decide.
4. Lack of updates - I got the ICS update in Dec'12 in India. Again, frankly after 10 months of using HTC 1X, I dont understand why this point is such a big thing at all!! The update will come when it has to. Is is a show stopper.. hell no.

Can be ported to ... moreread before talk !!!!. htc one x have for the first time a custom made hardware amplifier,made by beats audio, wich rises the level output at 3 volt for headphones output, three times more than an iphone. it is somehow like n91 had the superb harman-kardon amplifier inside. in rest all the beats audio branded htc have no internal amplifier. htc 8s is very powerful too,more powerful than my iphone 4s and my ipad 3

He made a point .
But according to me if you make innovative , quality and reasonably priced phones, i dont think Htc would require to invest so much for ads , the customers themselves would do that job... So well built , lot features and low price is success.
But if you choose to make high priced plastic phones then i think you should start your ads of 2020 line up right now !
P.S : plastic phones means only for name sake & nothing inside type of phones , and not the substance they are built on.

Well in a way that's what you get for not support some of your phones. Especially the Desire HD for example. You give the American DHD the update but say its unstable and it effects the phone features..I say that's a bunch of BS.
Support all products dont leave them hanging people will be turned off from your products

Very very powerfull hardware with fantastic speed
I dont belive thats how s important this news for me !! Some good some bad!!
I belive that wonderfull cell is in my hand and i dont replace it with any other.

My last HTC was the Desire.
A really great phone. But I swore that it would be my last HTC phone. Because this company is just a joke. They just kept promising updates but did not delivered... This company is totaly unreliable.
Now I have an Iphone 4s and even if this OS is maybe not as fun as Android, Apple still update the 3GS which I also have as a job mobile.
So it is certainly more that the marketing side they have to work with!!!

htc 8x have the best amplifier ever made on a mobile device, after nokia n91. thanks beats audio for the powerful headphones amplifier inside this superb device

Htc always is the best but not in the market..
Sami isnt as good as htc but their marketing is the best.

i think the people must take reality .. HTC always produce most powerful & best quality and design & best support among the others.. but it isnt enough for their success.. their market is weak..
i belive that they return to peak of sells if they want & expand their adv.

Sorry to say.. HTC doesn't lack marketing .. nor is marketing to be blamed.
The issue with HTC is trying to be like ios in a platform that doesn't suit it at all.
Unibody design with small battery -> android is a full multitasking phone, that demand good battery to keep up.. everyone can design their own push notification which will impact battery life.. unlike iphone where battery drain is constant regardless of apps installed.
No sd slot -> android is design with a filesystem, where media data can be hot-swap anytime anywhere and between devices.. sd slot plays a big role. In iOS data is sandbox in apps, having sd slot does not make sense.
If HTC can combine the HTC HD2 with the design of One X and make more space for a bigger battery, i cant see why they would not top the mobile world.

Htc Don't have Hdmi out feature. When i get home i alaways connect my s3 to my 40`` Samsung Tv via HDMI to wacth nba game on with nba game time application or play some emulator on my tv :)

Making a scapegoat out of marketing will not appease a public that knows the real issues with HTC products. Lies only worsen public perception - it shows that HTC is out of touch with the real problems, and consequently cannot solve problems it refuses to recognize. The reason people trust companies like Apple and Samsung is because they face up to problems with their products and promise to solve them immediately.

With andoid bean i can only share thing from application like the browser and youtube with S bean i can share File like mp3, video, pdf etc via Wifi direct. I have a 16 Gb S3 with a 32 and 16 gb micro sd card. my 32gb is almost full i have 2 gb left because i take alot of picture and have 12 gb of music and 4gb of video. With USB on the go i can connect my 500 GB Hard drive on my S3 .Again do your home work

but everything is good except mobiles BATTERY TIME... plz HTC improve Batteries and attract a wide sector of consumers.
