Thank you, Samsung. I know many here hate Samsung. People think they're copycats. They don't trust Korean products. Or perhaps they just don't like the name, Samsung? The name Sony sounds better. Who knows?
I don't even update often but this is great news from them. What's the point getting a Pixel then? One UI has more useful features than what stock Android has. This a sign of commitment from Samsung that they never showed before. I'd got S7 edge only to get one major update. Not four.

Pumpino, 09 Feb 2022Do people keep their phones for 5 years?Not when phone vendors stop giving you any updates after 2 years. But when you'll have a capable phone that can actually last for that long without really showing age and when you just keep on receiving updates, why not? I used to buy new Android phones because of this basically every 2-3 years as I hated using outdated OS and not receive security updates. Now on iPhone, 3rd year has gone past me and well knowing I still have at least 2 more major updates as well as more security updates, I'm just holding on to device. It's capable hardware wise and with software updates, I see no reason to buy new one. And it's a huge reason I'll go with iPhone again. Or Samsung if I'll fancy Android again. Because Samsung is the only company with excellent software support. They were excellent with 3+1 before, but now they want to offer 4+1? Not as good as Apple, but my god, this is excellent for everyone who want Android and appreciate software updates.

Very risky move, since Google has an almost flippant attitude to Android hardware requirements and can pull the rug from under Samsung with a bizarre hardware requirements for the next version.
And they wouldn't hesitate to do it either, knowing that some small part of Samsung's sales would go to Google and their Pixel line instead.

Rumors got conformed today, very good news. Not only for people who will have a phone that gets 4 OS upgrades, but hopefully also for the Android world to move more manufacturers to extend the update cycle.

One thing where Samsung is much better than others is their Software Experience & Support.
Entry level/Midrangers of Samsung get atleast 2 major Android updates & 3 yrs of Security patch updates.
& This is actually better than most of Chinese upper midrangers/Flagships.
Despite lacking in Hardware Specsheet,Samsung makes up for it with their Software support.
