Weekly poll: Samsung Galaxy S22 series - hot or not?

13 February 2022
Are you happy to see the Note return - so happy that you may buy an S22 Ultra? Or do the two smaller models look better?

Sort by:

It's very warm. The full reviews will determine if it gets hot. The cameras aren't a game changer, but they are better than the S21. The early gaming previews of the Exynos shows it can handle games on full settings and stay warm. Again, I think this is a case of Samsung giving us what we need. Not what the spec chasers want. I've also read the new modem in the snapdragon offers better low-signal performance.

I've found one battery review and these were the results on Exynos:
Galaxy S22 8:13 compared to 6:58 on the S21.
Galaxy S22 Plus - 9:46 hours
Galaxy S22 Ultra - 9:53 hours

Samsung may have figured out a way to get the most out of the battery with less. As a Fold owner, that is intriguing even though I'm in the U.S. Reports were the panels on the S22 and Plus are not LTPO but Samsung figured out a way to get variable rates as low as 10mhz.

Anonymous, 13 Feb 2022Brilliant. Extend battery life by turning off/not using tho... morePeople here want small phone like S6 , but also want cam system of S22 Ultra, the battery of M62 (7000mAh), the cooling of ROG 5 Pro, cpu faster than current intel i9 , while phone has no more than 7,6mm thickness and 170g weight.

If you want a phone that can easily last 24-30h under very heavy use, you should not to begin with buy a phone with so many power hungry stuff like 120/144Hz, QHD/4K, larger cameras, high end exynos/snapdragon, 8K recording ...

Also, people today are so addicted to their phones. You can buy a phone with 8000mAh and still find way to burn whole battery within a day.

I make calls, take photos, send/read messages, emails, use youtube, sports apps, video streaming, listen to music on the phone. Less than 3.000mAh and I only need to charge every 39-40h. Always between 5 - 5:30h SoT (former flagship).

Before buying the phone, you need to know your priorites.
High res screen + many hertz + strong cpu or battery endurance.
            You cant have both.

Anonymous, 13 Feb 2022recycled s21 ultra just to refresh the price and raise it a... moreOk, it's a refined version of s21 ultra, but to bashing for 🤏 sensor is useless. All phones have small sensors because they need to be very slim compared to any photo camera that for a 3x zoom has at least 10cm in front and 250gr.

                    Contemporary

Already had a hands-on with the smaller Galaxy S22 and the Ultra, and wow, they are impressive. I love the compact size of the S22, although the battery will be questionable, and the quick test I managed to do with the periscope sensors on the Ultra really impressed me.

I bought my first foldable in August (Z Fold 3), and I'll likely be upgrading to the Z Fold 4, so I'm looking forwards to new improvements for that lineup, but the new Galaxy S22 series are certainly great. I look forward to the full review.

Basically, use your flagship like a budget midranger. Thanks for the enlightenment.

Anonymous, 13 Feb 2022"New design". New cpu/gpu. New screen. Wors... moreNew design, where? It's still same shape as the old. It's still with edged screen. What new camera? Oh you mean the more fragile lenses on the back? Exynos is the same old unstable p00p, so no changes there. Amd is just as unstable, so that combo didn't do anything different. A new gorilla number, still can't survive a trip to the beach. So no difference there. New screen? Still edged, still same resolution, still same fake color grading. Camera app got a little change, but that's just software.

As the other one said, some people just love fake changes.

To be honest paying more for less is a big no for me.
In past S series had bigger batteries compared to size of the phone, had 3,5mm jack replacable batteries, SD Card slot, earplugs or earphones, charger in the box, no stupid inovations like fingerprint scanner embedded in screen or curved screen and much less bloatware within UI.
Nowdays its just a costly gimmick not worth to buy.
In past S series cost up to 500 nowdays they ask 1500 for top specced phone with nothing worth the price.

We appreciate this though as it will push prices of old devices down, some people just love that surgery.

From competition view, considering some brands have no competitive tele cameras, even S21U would suffice, now you also got a pen, what a deal...
From expecting view, this is renamed note21, not much next gen, more like last gen., nothing exciting to see.
From Samsung's point of view, let's freeze upgrading of old factor to improve user's movement towards foldables, otherwise they would not, considering some specs downgraded.
Considering there is regionally no competitor with 10x zoom, pen or folding, they basically do the expected and squeeze your wallet dry thx to their monopoly.
                                    Icy hot?

finally you didn't forget 'none of the above' option.

I just ordered an S22, the size if perfect for me and the price is amazing for 600€.

The promise of 4 years of Android versions and 5 years of security updates is also very attractive.
