Google was busy redesigning and breaking backwards compatibility on almost every .1 update. Yes, there were a lot of really terrible things with Touchwiz, the chronically broken filesystem they used being the main culprit, but it helped the "dumb" user to feel at home no matter what they bought.

I've never cared for "pure android experience." If I want a stripped-down OS with basic functionality, I'll use iOS only and not bother with Android.
Most people don't either. Explains why Stock versions of even popular phones like the Galaxy S4 and One M8 Play Editions never sold that well. At least compared to their custom-UI sibs. OnePlus is ditching their "close-to-stock" UI. Sony is barely in the game.

I still remember the first week with my Galaxy S3. It had to be rooted and de-bloated with a clean ROM. After that, battery life went from below a day to about 2 days on my use. It was also quite fast for that time. But in stock form, pretty much unusable. Very slow and battery life was a joke. Now at work I use a Galaxy A72... Definitely not a fast phone with its Android 12, but it's usable.

And no viable app store existed until Apple released one in 2008. Prada also didn't have multi-touch with pinch to zoom.
I don't even like iPhone but give credit where credit is due. All Google really did was COPY what Apple did like Kobe Bryant trying to mirror Michael Jordan. Android was built for cameras first and then as a BlackBerry copycat.

Anonymous, 13 Feb 2022Nokia had better phones in that time Yeah, good smartphones on N series era but immediately went down hill at touchscreens. I've tried Pre-HMD Nokia touchscreens from 3 eras: the N97, X3 and a 300 series Asha and all of them are terrible.

Remembering Touchwiz always makes me puke. That bloated UI alongside with bloatware apps made android crawl like snail and contribute to bad name to android itself, similar to HTC sense ui. Sure, android stock was a dope until material was introduced, but with limited computational power at those days, those UI just created another burden to those limit.

Well touchwiz of a past and samsung UI now is a huge difference.
Before it was UI close to stock android nowdays is just a bloatware full of useless apps which eats tons of disk space and ram act as mandatory apps which cannot be deleted and just eats space.
Pure android experience is always better let anyone install what they want and need and dont force them to have things which are nothing just a bloatware.
