I still hate that Sony ditched all their proprietary apps and went full Google. It won’t be long before they ditch Sony Music too.

AnonD-864404, 20 Feb 2022Those confusing name of Sony... =_= Seriously, Sony's new smartphone naming scheme since 2019 is now much easier to understand than before. That said, I'm still curious why Sony made an Xperia Pro smartphone when there is clearly no Alpha Pro camera. I can't help but think that all Xperia 1 models to date are nothing more than just an Xperia 5 with a larger screen and a bigger battery. If Sony renames the current Xperia 1 model as the Xperia 5 Plus and treats the Xperia 1 nameplate as their Premium Pro-grade halo flagship model like they did with the Alpha 1 Mirrorless camera, that could make a lot of sense. I found it ironic that Sony got the naming scheme right with the midrange Xperia 10 series.

I used the X until this summer without any hiccups. I even tried it on Ubports (Ubuntu based OS). Really loved that they had the option of running nearly aosp that was officially supported by Sony for a while. I'd use it more, but sadly I lost it in a cab.

The design is nice even for today, it just looks good. Still, I do not understand why people hate so much Sony today, the still offer microSD in their flagships, 3.5mm jack, 4K clear display with no punch-holes and notches, a pretty clear Android experience. The only problem I would say is the price, their phones are expensive.

Xperia X was a quite good phone for middle high segmen.
I own that phone for a while, love it, the size and feature was perfect for me, the screen are sharp and not felt to small like z5 compact.
SONY just make a terrible mistake with xperia X performance. They should release it as real flagship with larger screen, bigger ram & storage. Sony was totally confusing back then.

Yes! We want the rest of the story, the models that came after.
I used to love Sony until I got to know what I was missing by not getting a Samsung instead.. So by the time after Z3 I've been a Samsung fan

You did not speak any thing about the up gradation of the existing or supply of replacement of the worn-out battery

seriously the biggest thing missing are compact Compacts! there were some compromising offerings like Samsung s10e or now x10iii but they are sneakily larger in this or that dimension. but no actual compact flagships (unless you go for Apple drug).
like really, do so much people watch pr0n that larger screens are so much needed?

as former Sony fan,, I'd say Sony Xperia FAIL to Adapt and Overcome theirown weaknesses, even now.
my first smartphone was Sony Xperia T2 Ultra,,
my last Sony phone was Sony Xperia Z3.
many Japanese companies are declining,,
as if something holding them from innovating and advancing.

YUKI93, 20 Feb 2022Those 100MP+ multibayer camera still looks like a gimmick s... moreFor zooming is difference of Bayer important as well, cannot get the same quality, but processing definitely moves forward.
Not any one can do, but there are some who can, output good enough hi res from quad Bayer, like fast Vivo or slow Huawei using AI mode.
Point of hi res sensor is to eliminate noise while aquiring detail, getting HDR without lag and use processing and stacking to get more, like getting full res with normal Bayer like detail.
Sony's hiding behind non HDR shutter lag which is like prehistoric now in time of phones outing HDR raws, hi res, superzoom, low noise, hi detail.

YUKI93, 20 Feb 2022I'm guessing that this is a bridge to the Xperia XZ li... moreThe original XZ series as well as XZ Premium both had a plastic side frame coupled with an aluminium back panel. XZ1 was Sony's first (and last) phone to have a metal unibody design, then they followed other companies' machined aluminium billet + glass sandwich construction with XZ2.
