Anonymous, 21 Feb 2022if u knew anything about product timelines and contracts, e... moreBrands sign contracts to have commitment to use the chips.
Contracts that last years.
Contracts do not specify which devices are going to use. It is choice of phone makers.

For example, if vivo wanted, could have D9000 for all X series while using 8g1 more Nex lineup. Nothing would stop vivo from doing it.

Brands are using Qualcomm for main devices because they judge better for what they need. Except Samsung and Sony, all other could easily use D9000 for the top phone if they wanted.

The same case happened with AMD as well, it took till 5000-series to see 'flagship' laptops from OEMs (Strix G15 AE, Zephyrus Duo/G15, Omen, Legion 5Pro/7, XMG/Eluk, etc) but still not from all OEMs like MSI, Acer, AW, Dell, etc., even though 4000-series was already on par/better than the Intel competition in all scenarios
Again this year the AMD models have increased with even AW claiming the most powerful all-AMD laptop, so basically it takes time!!

People attack qualcomm because still cant handle the fact that mediatek is always used on inferior devices. Only one equal is the find x5 pro.

                OP10 Pro = qualcomm
Xiaomi 12 pro and upcoming 12 ultra/mix series = qualcomm
                Vivo x80 pro+ = qualcomm
                Sony 1iv /5iv = qualcomm
                Asus zen 9 pro /Rog 6 pro = qualcomm
                Realme gt2 pro = qualcomm

Why arent these phones powered by D9000 instead if some people claim it is better? None here answers ..

We learned a long time ago that these numbers are just that, in most cases with no real value in every day life. These tests come on special prepared units and when the average user buys one, has all sort of surprises like short battery endurance, overheating, which we know affects performance and and other things like that. A buyer who uses his brain will wait some time, see the impressions of others, how the phone behaves on an average every day use. Nowadays, best value is given by second best chips from each producer, with less overheating, more constant performance. Of course, another smoke screen specifications are IP rating and Gorilla glass, totally useless and adding up to the price a lot. If you do not use a solid case and display protection, you drop the phone, most of the times you break it. As an irony, plastic is much more resistant then glass, so a plastic back will not break. I've had my share of flag ships with harsh reality checks so no more...a mid ranger, high mid ranger is more than enough, lol. It's all about ego, and these producers know, we must have the best and the latest no matter what. Well, no more, enough thousand of Euros wasted, I've learned my lessons.

Sammy def. isn't gonna use it, they will use a lower tier Exynos (1080 successor) and maybe a Dimensity chip as well in their A-series, but certainly not the D9000.
That leaves no other potential brands (Asus, Sony, ?) in the running for this chip, maybe a ROG (MTK version like the Find series)

Anonymous, 21 Feb 2022No mmWave 5G. Available on phones with SD480. wow, gotta love this comment!!
maybe you can help my research, but from what I found there's only the one TCL phone which is exclusive to 'V' that comes with 'mmWave' on the SD480-5G chip.
So you are basing your comment on only this one phone?

I'd imagine the people buying this $300 phone aren't really concerned about the mmwave connection and ready to pay through their nose for the plans either.

Other than that this phone comes with just 4GB RAM (which might be be kinda usable but certainly limiting), then there's the storage (not mentioned, but I assume it's UFS 2.x, otherwise good luck handling such high data speeds when you finally spot a tower). Arguably, the only surprising bit I found is that the GSMA spec page lists USB 3.0 type-C😲😲 which definitely made me go "Whoaaaattt!?"

Aahhh now I need the list of phones with it... Somehow I'm not a fan of vivo unfortunately. If my preferable makers are using this chip, will definitely go with it

Ooofff, tough break for the Snapdragon fans.To top it all off the Dimensity 9000 also supports AV1 while Snapdragon will only get it in its next iteration.Seems Dimensity phones are the only Androids worth getting right now. 🙂

MediaTek, well done, the time is up for the extreme heat oven known as Snapdragon. 🤣

But yeah obviously we should still be a bit skeptical at 1st party benchmarks/numbers coming directly from the OEMs.

Geekbench is memory intensive than cpu intensive. It favours CPUs with fast dual or quad channel ram and high cache memory. For example my ryzen cpu was scoring 4000 in multicore in geekbench with single channel ram but with dual channel dual rank ram it is scoring over 6000 in multi-core. More accurate Cpu benchmarks are Cinebench and 7 Zip build in benchmark which are purely cpu based but sadly they are available for mobile.

In a nutshell, geekbench should not be taken as a metric to judge CPUs.
