Sony Xperia 5 IV rumor claims the phone will use a TSMC-sourced Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset

23 February 2022
We've heard this chip referred to as the 8 Gen 1+ and it might run cooler - important for a relatively small device.

Still 12 MP camera sensor? It is not that a 12 MP image is not good, but have a look at what Samsung have achieved with the S22 Ultra, it can take amazing full shots at 108 MP!

joe nodden, 23 Feb 2022Welp I never thought I'd ever be buying a Sony phone b... moreThe pixel size, tho. That sensor is actually pretty interesting.

The bigger the sensor, the more time a pic takes to get captured, since there's a rolling going on the sensor to garther the data.

Hildr, 23 Feb 2022You just forgot that the 5 is smaller than the 1, which bec... more1 isn't a small phone. It's a very tall phone. It depends on your preference, though.

TSMC version of the 8 Gen 1. Sh#t meaning the Samsung version of the 8 Gen 1 is sh#ty ouch! But last year's Samsung version of Snapdragon 888 was sh#t too. I don't think that's the case though, it's just that more powerful socs demand more power OEMs should focus more on cooling system tech. Whether TSMC or Samsung version of SD 8 Gen 1 will be sh#t without proper or innovative cooling tech. So far I have seen great development in Xiaomi's latest cooling tech. Asus Rog phones are too thick for my liking

Anonymous, 23 Feb 20225 is arguably better than 1. The specs are almost identical... moreYou just forgot that the 5 is smaller than the 1, which become a good or a bad point depending on the user. I wouldn't be happy with the small 5 as the 1 is already small enough for one hand use and pocketable in tight slim pant.

Anyway, I just hope they'll follow the pro-I trend and put back the cameras in the center of the phone, that's what made me keep the mark I as it's far easier to mod a cover for camera lenses support.

Anonymous, 23 Feb 2022Good value phone compared to OPPO trashSupreme quality! Camera is amazing! Oppo, Samsung, Xiaomi all trash in time and only Sony sensors can compare to Xperia in terms of shooting quality. But as long as Sony will have Alpha's autofocus balanced will still remain the top camera smart devices ever! Maybe some larger sensors and front Sony sensor with some screen nits brightness and some minor battery improvements, and it's enough... Sony knows the best!

I think it's pretty much confirmed that 1IV will have all quad bayer sensors this time around. You can most likely thank Apple for it since they've made the switch to QB sensors as well for the next iPhone. Xperias pretty much were in the line with Samsung/Apple main sensors with few tweaks and different naming. Now that Samsung has ditched exmor sensors for the main shooter Sony will go Apple route and do something similar.

Or just like how your favorite team ends up 5th in the standings it means they were actually better than teams ranked 1-4 in the table. Logic.

joe nodden, 23 Feb 2022Welp I never thought I'd ever be buying a Sony phone b... moreGoogle still proves that a native RGB 12MP camera can shoot great photos. Even current Quad Bayer and Nona Bayer camera sensors still output 12MP photos after pixel binning, so it's not like the rest are winning anyway. What is more important is the image processing algorithm.

                                    TSMC (always) > Samsung, period.

Welp I never thought I'd ever be buying a Sony phone but here I am. I might just have to settle for some mediocre 12MP sensors because Sony doesn't want to grow up.

I don't mind waiting for TSMC-fabricated SD 8 Gen 1. Knowing how excellent TSMC's fabrication and Sony's battery optimization software are, this could be a worthy upgrade to Mk2 flagship Xperias.
