Where is the 16GB RAM, 256GB variant? Why does ASUS have such a bad team? I want to fund these guys from Taiwan so that they can stand upto China when the day comes but they simply refuse to take my money with such mismanagement. God bless Taiwan.

well the price seems quite competitive to me, costing the same as the 9RT, while having better cameras arguably, HP jack, notification light, and ofc compact size!
I would've considered it if I hadn't already bought the X7 Max way back in August after waiting for Asus to release it, the 888 was also a concern, but I was willing to sacrifice for the compact FF!!

Your message:
"Courts will obviously favour an Indian brands, also Zen Mobile got the trademark before Asus India"
Should have been:

Shihab009, 27 Feb 2022It will be more pleasure if ASUS focus on their max pro ser... moreSadly there are plenty of fish in the sea, and it's difficult to differentiate your product in budget segment. Chinese players have advantage here and shared R&D, Samsung is a large corporation with very good brand value, and they can compensate from the profits they make in their S series. So if you're not Chinese or Samsung, your chances of success are very low, unless you sell your device at cost of manufacturing or loss.
Earlier Zenfone Max had advantage like stock android and 5000mah battery, making it unique in the segment. Now every other phone has 5000mah or 6000mah battery. Chinese brands can keep prices low because of the ads, but that's not the case or intention with stock android. In the end the device would end up expensive and dead of arrival. Then there's issue of software updates too. So it makes sense to make a good image in upper midrange or flagship segment, where margins are more flexible, and then proceed with lower midrange or budget. Asus is not a big player in mobile segment, so they can't stock piles of chipsets like BBK and Xiaomi who reuse and share everything across their sub-brands.
It's not they don't want to launch in particular market, the problem is they don't have enough resources to meet the demand. And it's even worse in the era of chip shortage. Maybe once the consumers gain more confidence in the brand, the brand itself would be more confidence to bid first and high for the chips, until then it's gonna stay like this for a while.

It will be more pleasure if ASUS focus on their max pro series. I feel that, ASUS will definitely come back with their midrange budget segment "ASUS MAX PRO M3".

Maybe they had registered trademark long before for Zen in Taiwan or other countries, but not in India.
Second argument makes sense, to safe guard their future. There must have been some settlement since you still see Zenbooks, but don't see Zenfones.

You have got them in the wrong order.
"But I guess people might wrongly buy a Zen Mobile thinking it's an Asus product, which would actually be profitable for Zen Mobile"
Now you understood the issue. If they didn't enforce their rights to the name now, they might get into a situation where Asus a larger, popular and global entity can sue them for using the name later. Such cases have happened a lot in history, and small companies or individuals, losing the battle not having the resources to fight.

Anonymous, 26 Feb 2022What's the defference beetwen asus zenfone 8 and zenfone 8z?There's no Zenfone 8z. Asus Zenfone 8 is the global name and Asus 8z is Indian variant. This is because Zen Mobile, an Indian company which hasn't made a single smartphone in years, decide to sue Asus India over Zenfone trademark, and won in court (Courts will obviously favour an Indian brands, also Zen Mobile got the trademark before Asus India). The argument was Zenfone and Zen Mobile sound very similar and would cause confusion in minds of buyers (But I guess people might wrongly buy a Zen Mobile thinking it's an Asus product, which would actually be profitable for Zen Mobile). But yes, a money losing company will do anything to extract money from a multi national giant, but Asus probably decided to give away Zenfone branding. Asus can bring another sub-brand and it would still sell well.

Picked it coz of Android 12 headphone jack n compact size. Chip and battery are not that disappointing but yeah headphone jack n compact size were a must for me so had to go for it. 5g is yet to come to India, maybe in 2023 it will go full fledge but no way this year. And in 2023 i guess we'll have more options to choose from. decent screen descent speakers descent performance love when the fingerprint sensor is at back and not under screen or on the side. design wise it's very nice phone for its price. I got it for 25kINR.
