Dimensity 8100 and 8000 announced, first smartphones coming in March

01 March 2022
These 5nm chips use the new Mali-G610 GPU, however, they stick to the older Cortex-A78/A55 CPU cores.

Anonymous, 01 Mar 2022I wish they went with A78 + A510 combo tho (if it were possible)While the 510 architecture is backward compatible, it would have more sense for them to use 4 x A710 ( which is the next gen of A78) along with 4 x 510, rather than A78 + A55. Introducing the A710 & 510 would have easily given a 20% power saving if sticking to the same settings, or a 15% performance improvement, if using the same power setting as A78+A55 along with the addition of being on the new architecture. Just Imagine, if they are claiming 90% SD 8 Gen 1 performance with SD 865 power on the old architecture, what they could have achieved if they used the new ones. Strange decision but I think they went with cost savings in mind.

SMIRNAS, 01 Mar 2022why Mediatek not use new cpu for Dimensity 8000 and 8100?? ... moreIndeed, I kinda expected the D7000 being that and the D8000 being the A710 and A510 CPU

If you know about schedulers, it's not their responsibility to disable core.
And why would I use a septa core cpu when I paid for 8 core?

Selling same chipset again and again while changing its name was populair now there is new thing.
Making a chipset slower down and selling it same time with another but as a new chip.
          Interesting...

          What will we see next?

Disappointing that they are still using Arm v8 cores (A78, A55) instead of the new v9 cores (A510, A710).

Anonymous, 01 Mar 2022Can you replace X2 core with A710 in D9000?Have you heard of a scheduler that schedules which load goes into which core? You can shut down the X2 core entirely if you wanted to.

AndroidAuthority, 01 Mar 2022Was there really a need for both 8100 and 8000 chips to exist?.The D8000 are probably binned D8100 chips. Just slightly worse performance.

Anonymous, 01 Mar 2022Not even 9000 can do 8K. No use of 8K video recording, it's gonna eat up your storage.

The spec sheet paper is very impressive. I'm pretty sure these will be cheaper than Qualcomm is offering.

With the global shortage of chipsets both companies will have no problem in selling all their upper midrange and high end chipsets. Most likely both Qualcomm and Mediatek won't be able to have enough high end chipsets manufactured. TSMC and Samsung have limited capacity to manufacture them
