I updated my Xperia 5 ll yesterday (Tue 08 Mar) with build 58.2.A.0.899. The battery icon in the status bar now shows empty all the time and says it has 0% charge although in Settings it says it's 100% charged. Also, if I switch my phone off and on again, the charge percentage indicator in the status bar vanishes! I have to go into Settings and deselect-reselect it to make it come back.

TheTopMostDog, 09 Mar 2022Don't do it guys! If you have this phone on 11, don... moreUnfortunately this sounds like all the prior Sony update experiences. And I'm a Sony fan, still rocking the XZ2 Compact. When we got the update from 9 to 10, the fingerprint reader performance was messed up, and never got it fixed... I can not deny that in 2022, smartphone business is not only hardware and half baked software. Software is a MAJOR part of the experience, and the initial price that customers pay, both the quality and the support duration I mean. I still want to upgrade to another Sony hopefully, but Samsung providing 4 years of OS upgrades + another year of security patches, makes me inclined towards Samsung 😭😭 Sony needs to improve themselves, and publish CLEAR software support schemes for their phones, like Samsung and Google...

Don't do it guys! If you have this phone on 11, don't upgrade to 12. I've got an Xperia 1 iii, and upgrading to 12 was the worst thing I've done with this phone. Sony had so many cool little things in 11 that were advertised as new features in 12, but the stock 12 features are just not as good as what Sony had in 11. Some things have been completely removed, like the power button Google pay (and home control) menu. The other problem I have is cut down features; 12 has things like colour matching UI scheme that's shown off with pixel devices, but is completely missing from Sony's version. The update I got for my phone really is half baked as of writing and if you're happy with your phone now, don't try to fix what's not broken, because I bet you'll get served a similar experience to me.

Refresh rate problem with Xperia 1 III after Android 12 update? There is also a report that the operation is stiff at 120Hz - 60Hz without permission
sumahodigest-com.translate.goog/?p=8102&_x_tr_sl=ja&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en-US&_x_tr_pto=wapp
'Specifically, on Xperia 1 III and 5 III that have been updated to Android 12, even if the display refresh rate is set to 120Hz (use of low afterimage setting is turned on), it is forced to use a specific app. The problem is that the display will be 60Hz'
Good luck live testers, Sony's great legacy on buggy updates continues!

Anonymous, 08 Mar 2022Samsung killed them all. Their update system rules. They do rule in the update game, but let's be honest, updates don't really bring much to the table, it's all about the feeling of getting something new, even if it's just tweaks in the UI. The hardware is still the same and that's where we're limited. I do like regular updates, but when you look at it from the outside, it's more important which device you have than what android version you're running. Not even talking about security patches, I have yet to hear about a single device no matter how old and from any manufacturer which is useless because it's completely hacked and unusable because a secret society of hackers control all units. I bet more people actually bricked their device by trying to flash the latest software on their phone.

DMX, 08 Mar 2022So you don't want to pay how expensive a sony is today... moreI'd still buy one though. Sony phones are notoriously durable in long term use. A friend of mine still keeps his still-functioning Xperia Z2 for backup despite already moving to an Xperia 10 Plus since launch.

Anonymous, 08 Mar 2022I wonder if 2019 Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 will get Android 12 ... moreNo.
If people want longer software support, they need to buy moremphones. So they can have more money to spend on software.

Anonymous, 08 Mar 2022I wonder if 2019 Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 will get Android 12 ... moreI have a phone with Snapdragon 665, and that is still good enough for almost anyone. Snapdragon 855 will do the job for 99.999% of people, even in 2025 will be still good enough.

I wonder if 2019 Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 will get Android 12 OS update. I know most smartphone brands stick to two major OS update, but it's nice to see longer OS support. After all, SD 855 is still good enough for most people in 2022.

DMX, 08 Mar 2022So you don't want to pay how expensive a sony is today... moreI feel ya, mate.
I hate the curved panels on the Samsung and Google flagships as well.
Unfortunately, Sony doesn't sell their stuff here so I settle for the "almost flagship" grade phones to get a flat panel.
