Drop test shows Samsung Galaxy S22's flat display is pretty easy to damage

14 March 2022
The Gorilla Glass Victus+ didn't do much better in a flat configuration than it did with the curved display on the S22 Ultra.

Another reason to be glad of have cancelled my S22 order.

Not trying to excuse Samsung here, but from the dozens of smartphones that I had in my life, I dropped only two. And they both survived with minor scratches.
In other words, I don't know what you people do with your phones, but just take care of them, especially if they are expensive. Otherwise you deserve to have a broken phone and deserve to be ripped of in service shops.
And if you know you are clumsy, or have kids or pets, or whatever, just use case and screen protector. In the end, is more your own faults, than the fault of the manufacturer.

AnonD-1033007, 14 Mar 2022Gorilla Glass Victus+ is just a marketing name, same goes f... moreIt's literally NOT. Stop saying stupid crap like this if you have no clue about the subject. They may call it fancy names, but they are NOT regular glass. Because this isn't even just hardened/toughened glass which is simply obtained with additional heat treatment of a regular glass after it has already been made (similar way how we harden steel for swords so it becomes flexible and resistant to dents). All the glasses used for displays are obtained through methods of ion exchange which "injects" certain properties into regular glass depending on what ions they are exchanging. With certain balancing, they can achieve increased hardness or increased flexibility. One always excludes the other as you can't bypass laws of physics when it comes to minerals. Lower the hardness, the more scratchable it'll be, but will resist shattering better. The harder it is, the harder it is to scratch, but will shatter easier. People think diamonds are indestructible. They are not you can shatter them rather easily. Scratching them is entirely different thing however.

Displays have scratch resistance prioritized because it's something that will happen either way, but it's a difference if display is full of deep scratches or full of hair thin scratches. Glass only shatters in very rare cases, which is why it's included when making hardened glass, but isn't the highest priority. Ever wondered why we don't have plastic display phones anymore, not even those budget 100€ ones? This is why. Because any glass will always fare better against scratches no matter what and scratches are a priority for pretty much everyone.
