Drop test shows Samsung Galaxy S22's flat display is pretty easy to damage

14 March 2022
The Gorilla Glass Victus+ didn't do much better in a flat configuration than it did with the curved display on the S22 Ultra.

wait, is that really GG Victus+ (??)

It's glass: no matter what marketing Corning come out with, if you drop it there is a chance of breakage. And phone manufacturers often use "upgrades" to these glasses to reduce the thickness of glass rather than increase the resilience of the device (though you'd never know that from the marketing).

If they'd stuck with the plastic back of the s21 then you'd only have to worry about it on one side. But dumb people moan that "plastic isn't premium", and so they give you a back that shatters too...

I dropped an Asus ZenFone 5 twice on a concrete pavement with no cracks. New Victus appears less durable than GG3!?

              Huge scam.

Not as much as the $600 to replace rear glass of iphone. But still an extortion.

Intelligent people use phone case (and also screen protector)

Anonymous, 14 Mar 2022glass is glass, and glass breaksBut the phone isn't just glass. There's metal and plastic too, and it can be engineered to be shatter resistant through shock absorption. At least it's not a catastrophic failure like in the case of the S22 Ultra's camera lenses.

I would like to know where you got the $199 for an S21 5G screen replacement cost? My wife dropped hers, and has a minor crack on the edge now, and everywhere I shopped costs are $250 and up, not $199

AnonD-994853, 14 Mar 2022Plot twist = Samsung is lying and is using lower versions o... moreI remember when flagship was s6, that users in my location suspect local units had plastic instead of glass. Because phone was too light to be glass. For example sony m4 was kind of plastic that made you feel it was glass.

I had chance to have s6 edge for couple minutes in my hands. Phone was so light that felt like cardboard.

It is even worse those brands that on their website just sair Corning Gorilla Glass without telling the version. It is always GG3.

Even $150 phone today should have GG5 at least.
