I don't know what that user was talking about then. Remembering usernames/passwords is an archaic feature. People use it long before the Face ID exists.

This is what you said. Maybe you don't understand that remembering usernames/passwords is a standard feature. It has nothing to do with Face ID.

why not just make slightly bigger centered pil? this is just stupid to have instead one screen obtrusion two of them just to stand out as uniquely stupid solution

This does not look good. They should've just made the entire system into one big pill instead of putting screen 'area' between the pill and hole. Would've looked much better. As it stands I prefer the notch.

Oh boy. They were claiming that a notch is better than a pill or circular cutout. Now they'll blindly defend this design too. Those "Users" are better programmed than the phones.

It was the same case when Apple released iPhone X. I remember Xiaomi released Mi 8 after that. Even the Face ID technology was similar inside it. Not to mention the design.
But after that, they forget about it and moved on. Xiaomi Mi 9 looked totally different.

But, sadly for them, they didn't come out with something revolutionary, so they probably will use this ugly "pill + hole" thing instead. Yeah, different, but not necessarily better.
