For one year of service, you can have a brand new Windows laptop at a one-off price and you can easily use it for up to five years. If I pay for the equivalent five years of server-side virtual machine service, I can easily build the most powerful desktop gaming tower.

I saw a lot of model with 11th gen Intel Core i5/i7 and AMD Ryzen 4000 5/7. I also saw some laptops already utilizing the new 12th gen Intel Core and AMD Ryzen 5000 chipsets.

And you can run Android Apps either natively, via link to windows or via DeX on them. There is no need for tablets in between, be it from Apple or from Samsung.
          I was short before buying a Tab S8 Ultra, but decided to change to Galaxy Book2 360: it is a tablet, has the S Pen which is better than my current Surface Pen, can run all Windows Apps, can run all Android Apps via Link to Windows or DeX. And if I needed a smaller device, I would use my phone with the big screen.

          If I didn't need Windows Apps, I would go either for a Samsung tablet or for a Windows tablet: both are at least actual computers with Desktop Mode.
          But an iPad? Even if it had M1 Ultra Extreme Hyper SOC, it would run iPad Os: it can’t even drive a separated second screen or simply a mouse. There is no other way to get less for more money than buying an iPad Pro.

                    iPad Pro been my most used ”computer” for many years already, not even my i9 desktop PC with 32” screen change that. Everything which i’m able to do with this iPad i like it more than doing same by sitting next to my desktop pc. But when i compose or mixing music, then my PC is clearly number one choice by far, pretty much everything else i do with iPad.

                      If I had 600 dollars to spend on a computer I’d rather get an iPad Air with M1 chip than a pc. The air is just perfect for what it is designed to be. A 600 dollar pc will be mediocre, slow, plastic with many corners cut.

                        Yeah, for most of people that do basic work with documents or media tablet is enough, but for someone who actually WORK... forget about it, PC is must have, laptop is minimum if power is not priority...

                        And all that virtual machine and serwer-side emulation on iPad and android... give me a break its like putting a car engine on a bike... you create more issues and weird habits that make your work just annoying and tedious.

                          The iPad is definitely not a computer but it is amazing how many things I can do on my iPad before I need to do something that only my Mac can do.

I was doing it back in like 2014 or something at work. There was a ChromeOS client I also used back then.

There are a lot of things I don't like about iPadOS (which is really just iOS). But the fact that all browsers are arbitrarily just poopy Safari is really the worst thing. I'm imagining all of these tablets Apple is making that are like 4x faster than my Chromebook Duet, but are like equally useful. I can run Linux containers and have VS Code installed natively on the Duet. I have an iPad Mini 6 and the experience IMO is significantly better on the Duet, just the Duet is much much slower. I'd be much happier with a small ChromeOS tablet with A78 or A710 cores.
