No thanks.
Wireless is the future.
Just one good eartquake or war like Ukraine and Russia and your cable technology goes down. And the earthquakes are far more frequent than giant sun explosions which can cause wireless devices malfunctiuon.

No phone can do that.

AnonF-1006353, 02 Apr 2022That's exactly the case with bluetooth headphones but ... moreMan it happens to wired as well.
Low end wired earphones or earplugs will last maybe 2 years then gets broken or the rubber around earplugs gets damaged etc.
I know for now you cant replace tiny batteries inside but still some deliver outstanding sound experiuence compared to wired ones.
Brands i told you before.
Well it doesnt matter its not me who started no jack trend.

The sealed battery and sealed storage on the other hand. Yeah, nothing you can do about that, lol.

Those American companies don't get it. The world is moving away from sealed everything (latest EU law says that battery should be replaceable) and they try to seal even more into the chassis.
I swear , while American politics are mostly free (still), their industrial complex is rife with tyrrany. Be it the social directives in their companies, or their tendencies to trap the consumer in deals they do not want to be trapped into. They hate freedom with passion and create tools that take away from it. Espec google, the "only do evil" company, how can are they allowed with such a motto?

A physical contact will always be better than any wireless stuff you can come up with by the simple fact that environment interferences are practically nullified with a cable. I say, practically, because they can still suffer interferences if badly grounded, but still takes some work to do it

"And maybe leave some extra room for smartphone manufacturers to utilize too."
They wont do shit with that. They have done nothing with current sacrifices, and the sim card has always been in the middle of the motherboard to begin with

AnonD-731363, 02 Apr 2022Well maybe that only one exception but in fact most product... moreThat's exactly the case with bluetooth headphones but NOT with cabled headphones. You can get $20.- In-Ear headpones on aliexpress with detachable, interchangeable cables, which will last longer than the tiny batteries inside bluetooth headphones. And which, depending on the model, will even sound better, as long as the BT iems don't support LDAC or LHDC or Aptx-HD and have a good DSP tuning...

"In turn, this could allow manufacturers to get rid of the SIM card slot as a whole leaving room for some extra hardware. We could see the return of microSD cards or we could see slightly bigger batteries too."
It could but since manufacturers don't want us to have cheap expandable storage I highly doubt it. They want us to buy the more expensive versions higher storage versions or pay for their cloud storage

qasar80, 02 Apr 2022guys, please, would you change a little the standard phrase... moreA phone with headphone jack can be built completely waterproof if you build the enclosure around and just make the connectors on both sides of the headphone jack enclosure a fixed part of it with no possible leakage points, so don't come with that argument. There can be a lot of other weakpoints for water ingress, it just takes a bent display edge for example..
It's funny how a brand like apple fools anyone into thinking that removing timeless features like a headphone jack (or never giving individual, upgradeable storage options with microSD) is called progress, while they preach how environmentally friendly they are, yet forget that their decisions generate a humongous number of E-waste with all the thrown away/replaced devices (i.e. headphones because they are no longer compatible or broken dongles and phones when they can be no longer considered usable because of just not enough storage for even basic users without the possibility to expand the storage. And don't get me started with the cloud argument..it takes one big global crisis or solar storm and you'll never see your files again, if the internet backbone lines go down or cloud services go bankrupt).
It's all just to generate new trends and "needs", to generate more profit from the blind customer, while taking away the control from the user. Unfortunately most people don't notice it, because they don't understand.
And, in terms of the headphone jack, why not just offer both features? BT headphones were available even before the removal trend of the jack (i.e. being forced to go BT), you could always use them if you want, and in each situation one or the other might be more suitable, so why only offer one way?
It's ok if there is a flagship for everyone, heck even one without a port, but it's another thing if removing useful features is becoming a trend, just for the sake of profit. Think about it...
