After Android 5.0 it went private but Android 4.0 is a lot chinese and harmony is built from there, not from the private one

AnonD-844232, 13 Apr 2022Most likely never... Harmony is designed for chinese popula... moreMy understanding of HarmonyOs is that it's micro-kernels basis that can be mounted on top other OS. Android and iOS are using monolithic kernels.
Huawei, at this present moment, is probably designing a new OS for smartphones or tablets or laptops from scratch using the micro-kernel approaches, however it'll take time (can be for a very long time) before they can release the new OS. Technology industry is tough and moving really fast now. Huawei still needed to sell their products and services to stay relevant in the market (especially internationally. They're now surviving by releasing their HarmonyOS micro-kernels bits and pieces mounted on top of Windows and Android (and maybe Linux) to support their long term vision, while staying relevant.
The test will be when Android 10 is no longer supported (likely either Sep 2022 or Oct 2023 based on Google's end of life information) and the US trade ban is still imposed. What will they do? We're in a sticky situation now if we're interested in buying any of the Huawei Android devices. Windows devices are probably fine.

I'm inlove with HarmonyOs Snippets such a Great Feature and so innovative... If they could make it same as options... Swipe to open a tab instead of pressing it would be a game changer...

There's a lot of Apps on PlayStore that work on certain Android devices and not on others. And you can run HarmonyOS Apps on an Android phone. Some run fine as is. Especially when you've flashed a Custom ROM. Other times you might have to recompile.
But the gist is, all the important parts are 100% Android, and the non-important bits are EMUI/Huawei unique.
edit: i don't hate Huawei or Apple or any company. I am stating facts. I think the Huawei Fold 1 (Mate X) is the device of the future, it just needs to be improved upon slightly.

Unfortunately usa gov made it very difficult..
HUawei P10 and 20 and 30 series - they still have google but from P40 series p50 series has no gapps so they might get Harmony but less likely becsue if you would install Harmony you no longer would have google on the phone...
So that is why now Huawei made kind of hybrid as I received update and it is not android anymore nor Harmony... we are stuck in warp worm hole between two parallel universes of operating systems 😅
If you buy P50 pro from china, that phone has Harmony OS

Windows tried to be in smartphones, it didn't go well.. So they gave up

Every company will start on so... moreThe idea is chinese companies always lie about certain things. Or more clearly, they exaggerate things to attract people. Of course, all companies do this, but chinese ones do it more.
I think here is the problem. Not that Harmony OS is bad, but the way they talked about it at the start and how it will be a game changer. Also, their fanboys were making fun of Android and IOS. And in the end it is just another Android skin, lol.

What u think apple invented word IOS?? No
Cisco invented this short and Apple has to pay money licence to Cisco every year to use ONLY iOS they are not allowed to use IOS.. !
Again think Apple iphone software was based on Unix ,... AGAIN not apple original !
And after many years by modifying and improving and changing, it shifted to their kernel !
Same Huawei you need to give them TIME my friend ! THEY TRYING !
They trying like Apple or any other companies..
So after 5 years Harmony 5.0 or 6.0 will be completely detached from Android or linux And they will invent their own...

I have received interesting 2.5GB update on Mine Huawei Mate 20 X 4G week ago and it is EMUI 12 And phone no longer says it is android and there is no android logo ''powered by android' on startup anymore... In settings doesn't even show android version...
But interesting thing is dat I have google on it as usual...

Huawei said they wouldn't fork Android, and instead "build" their own OS.
Well that was a lie.
In all practical ways, this is Google's Android (AOSP) with the EMUI Skin, and a few things in the backend to fill the gaps left without Google-Services. The closest example of this, would be FireOS. As seen on the Amazon Kindle HD / Tablet Fire 7 (9th-gen), it runs Android 9.0-based "FireOS v7.0". These are both "forks" of Android.
I'm quiet disappointed with Huawei.
They should have done a better job, just look at Jingling. The JingPad A1 looks good, and the JingOS is the best consumer-based Operating System we have that is based on an open-source Linux Distro. Sure, there are other mainstream options from the likes of Debian to PopOS, ElementaryOS, Deepin, Zorin, etc etc. But none of these are as optimised for modern computing, especially when it comes to Digital Pen, Virtual Keyboard, Gesture Navigation, and portable screen sizes. Unless we reference Jolla and SailfishOS, with the latest SailOS 4.4 being much more stable, smooth, and battery smart at least when running on the Sony Xperia 10 mk 3.
