HaterzSuckkkkk, 17 Apr 2022Slightly innacurate. Due to the M series chips, macs now... moreNo.
The reason for the M1 chips' performance in Video editing is due to the amazing media engines. The actual graphics power of the M1 ultra 64 core GPU is slightly worse than the RTX 3060.
In fact, there is only a marginal difference between the 48 core and 64 core GPU, but costs $1000 more.
So where would you see the M1 chips shine?
As mentioned previously, video editing and scrubbing through complicated codecs like h265, Red raw, canon raw and difficult colour profiles like 422 10 bit, 422 12 bit etc would be way better than even the RTX 3090, thanks to the best media engines in the world.
Where will you see the M1 chips' struggle?
Mostly in graphics intensive applications, games, 3d design, VFX etc.

Of course they are. But they aren't the ONLY software. In fact, tell me how many individuals except petulant teens and jobless adults are even interested in that?

And don't try to give examples of a few thousand Twitch streamers who are earning well because there are way more people earning from video editing for which OS X is unbeatable.

Anonymous, 19 Apr 2022Apple servers still use Linux.Okay, and?
Windows itself is based on 86-DOS which was created by Tim Paterson and bootlegged by Bill Gates. Unlike him, Jobs at least put in his time and energy to create something, even if that "something" is based on an open-source OS.

Thank you for the great review.

It's entertaining to see the weirdos who have such strong opinions, even though they personally have not even been close to a Mac Studio.

I never said that the point is to get a computer for the price of a Mac Studio. My point was that the build from the article isn't the most performance possible when the budget limit is the price of a Mac Studio.

                    > "show me that build in Euro prices"

Your list has many overpriced parts. I got €1870 on PCPartPicker Germany (https://archive.ph/ECjmn).

                    > "the original configuration had a 12GB - more RAM is better for video editing."

Puget Systems says 8GB of VRAM is enough for a 4K timeline resolution (https://www.pugetsystems.com/recommended/Recommended-Systems-for-DaVinci-Resolve-187/Hardware-Recommendations#GPU), but you're likely right that the 3060 is faster here since DaVinci Resolve currently favors Nvidia GPUs. Switching the 6600 XT for a 3060 would only bring the price up to €1890 (https://archive.ph/NHbQp).

I'd like to reiterate that I have nothing against Apple's products if they work better for you. I understand the frustrating crashes that sometimes happen with DaVinci Resolve on Windows (which I've also experienced while having barely used Resolve), and I understand how powerful Apple's processors are—especially with video editing. With my original comment, I only wanted to show that the build in the article was unoptimized in terms of performance per dollar.

                        [deleted post]I'm a Software Engineer.

And again, the time those videos take to render doesn;t means you need to stay idle watching them render. You can go somewhere else and do other stuff while it finishes.
And I'm not trolling anyone here: Mac Studio is too expensive for what it is. I know some people use MacOS bc it's comfortable for them or they have been years on it, and for those people I would suggest to stick to the base products, without paying too much. And at this point, to wait for M2 if possible, since that's coming on June probably.

if they keep the studio for 5 years and resell it at half price, they will reach the same price as a window pc or they can even save some money for a new model.

I would have gone with the studio too if I was a professional.

Video editing is really mac top value. With their stability, robust feature, and optimization, hard for other OS to compete.

If what I do is mainly video editing, I probably also use mac.
