There was survey asking which would be reasons for Android users to switch to iPhone and by far number 1 reason was longer software support.

But there is enough noise out there now about security and privacy when using smartphones that seeing a system update is reassuring.

I also get what you are saying about Apple fans bringing software support up as a pro of iOS. The thing is, this is almost always countered by the Android side using much the same argument as you have made.

But (there’s always a but right) what confuses me is that every time an Android oem agrees to an increase in their software support policy, what I’m not seeing is those same Android fans saying ‘don’t bother guys, we’re fine as is, not many keep their phone for that long, and those that do don’t care which version they are on anyhow’

I started with Nokia then came iOS and i changed. 4 years later i changed again and tried Android and been with it until now. But this year, gonna change back to iOS again, buying a 14 Pro (or pro max). I understand and accept that for me, as years go by, i value privacy, software stability, reliable updates more than customization Android gives etc
I rarely change my themes or background or always on display etc i just open the apps and use them, that's it.
I work with banking and trading apps and i'm not gonna risk some software exploit in Android and lose my money or my data etc
And btw i hope iOS stays closed and only allow apps from appstore for increased security and privacy.

DaFink, 25 Apr 2022Look, you have to go with what works for you. Based on what... moreEven though I agree with the first part of your comment, I don't fully agree with the last part about longer software support.
Yes, with iPhones you get longer software support, but I can tell you that I know some people with older iPhones (something like 6s, 7 or SE1), that don't even know on which IOS version their phones are. And I am pretty sure they don't care either. The phones just work.
And to this, some Androids are the same. I know also some people that still use Galaxy S7 or S8 phones. And they are the same kind of people, they don't even know or care on which Android versions they are. The phones just work. Yeah, they don't receive any more updates for those phones, but the phones still work very nice.
What I am trying to say is, that people who still use 4-5 years old phones are not tech people and don't care on which version of software their phones are. So basically, longer software support can't be really considered an advantage for these people.
But this longer software support thing, is always used by Apple fanboys online, to brag about IOS superiority. When in fact is a featured not used or not interesting for the actual people using those devices.
Is like saying Android phones are better just because they have more Ram. But people use them only for social media and video watching. Ok, not good example, but just to get the idea of things that phones have, but not being used or needed.

That is, when you think on it, a very bad life choice. Rewarding ecosystem monopoly abuse by a company that clearly does not need the extra money.
For instance, the app ads Samsung USED to have were for alternative apps they made. See the difference there? They allow another app to be installed as default and gives the user a choice that is easy to dismiss.

I am not an apple zombie fanboy but I do use the iPad Pro 12.9 as my main computer. I am not loyal to any brand name I use the best product that's worth the money. I mainly use flagship phones from Google pixel and Samsung galaxy for on-the-road devices. I also use the flagship tablet from the Samsung galaxy tab s series along with the iPad pro. I operate in both worlds ios and android but both operating systems as their advantages. I will never be a fanboy of any multi-billion dollar company especially if I am not getting paid or getting free products from those same companies and that's why I will never defend any multi-billion dollar companies from harsh criticism.😂😎😤

Lulfie, 25 Apr 2022Name a OS with ads you cant remove, I'll waitI shouldn't have to remove ads from a phone I spent money on. It shouldn't have ads in its software to begin with.

[deleted post]"Using torrents can indeed be both legal and illegal as it all depends on the case. So now, to the million-dollar question, what’s legal and what’s illegal here?

In a flash, when you don’t own an item and it is copyrighted, but you go ahead and download it through torrent sites for free, then that’s illegal.

                            Is Torrenting illegal
On the other hand, when you use a torrent client to download torrents in itself means that you’re downloading some stuff that’s not protected by copyright; hence that’s legal.

Therefore, it’s easy to say that the problem is not the act of torrenting, but what you torrent is rather what may land you in trouble.
Unfortunately, it’s often hard to guess the kind of content that’s legal to torrent and that which isn’t.

Therefore, due to such difficulty, most countries have made using torrent websites illegal in any form.
For example, the USA is well known for its tough stance on torrents (to the point that they charge huge fines and jail time), while places like Spain and Poland allow people to download copyrighted content if it is for personal use only."

Most people use torrents illegal way, getting stuff free which would normally cost, propably you too. I also had my torrent years when i was young, now i have a job and i pay for stuff i need, because i wouldn't like if someone steal part of my paycheck, you know.

Anonymous, 25 Apr 2022But, the real question do you take advantage of that longer... moreLook, you have to go with what works for you. Based on what you have said, I would recommend you go with the S20+ as you already seem to have made up your mind that it's going to be the best value for you. And there is nothing wrong with that.

On the flip side however, there are many out there who simply prefer iOS over Android, so the S20+ is not going to appeal regardless of it's current cost. And there is nothing wrong with this either.

This constant bickering over which is best is pointless, as it can lead to no foreseeable conclusion, it'll just go on and on and get ever more vitriolic. just decide which you personally prefer and use it.

I prefer iOS for instance, Oh I get told all the time that 'Android is better' but it hasn't changed my preference. I'll carry on with iOS till I change my own mind on the matter.

And of course there is an advantage to longer software support, I know of many people who still use older iPhones like the 7, 8, or original SE. That these devices still tell them to run system updates is a big comfort, as they generally have no interest in smartphones, out side of it being a tool to help get things done, so will not update till absolutely necessary.

As for Motorola or Nokia phones, their models lag like crazy, even with stock Android, lol. I can't even imagine if they would have a more heavy skin.
And latest Pixel phones are full of bugs. I would rather buy a Realme instead of a Pixel phone, if I want some stock Android experience.
Imo, One Ui is the best Android skin. And with the latest One Ui 4.1 a lot of bloatware has disappeared. My current second hand S20+ has less bloatware in One Ui 4.1, than my past S21 or S20 had with previously One Ui's. Only thing I dislike that Netflix or Facebook apps can't be uninstalled (only disabled). But this is because Samsung has a direct contract with those companies, so they are obliged to keep the apps preinstalled.

My second hand S20+ (a 2 years old device for which I paid 400EUR) is still receiving monthly updates. Probably next year I will change it with something like S21 Ultra (which will probably cost 400-500EUR at that time). "

Funny that you kind a answered to your own guestion, it's really easy to sell old iPhone to next one because it still runs newest OS and will run in upcoming years too. Android phones resell price is very low compared to iPhone, because you sell old unsupported phone which already left behind, while you can sell two years old iPhone to next person and he/she can still enjoy the newest OS for next three years.
