Weekly poll: how many of you have a smartwatch and what kind?

08 May 2022
We want to know about your smartwatch and smart band preferences.

User of Amafit BIP and (now) BIP S for 3 years.
Charging once/month and has transreflective display (i.e.:does not require backlight and always show the time, unlike OLEDs). Those are my main concerns. If I could deactivate tracking for battery life, I would.
Also I use it with Gadgetbridge instead of their SW.
Previously used Casio connected GShock, Vector Luna and Cookoo.

You need an option for Fitness Watch. Garmin watches etc. don't really fall into any of the categories listed.

I use a fitness band with smart watch functions. Does that count? All Fitbit Inspire models can notify for calls and text messages. You can change the clock face from a small selection in the Fitbit app.

I had mi band 4 for long time and then upgraded to 6, as much as I love those, especially for the long battery life(4's battery lasts almost one month, 6 is worse at around two weeks), the UI is very slow and laggy, and it was really annoying when I used timer or stopwatch I was locked to them, there is no multitasking and when using those they dont even tell the time FFS. But the mi fit app was simple and nice to use, and there are plenty of watch faces to chose from, not to mention they are very cheap too.

Then I got apple watch 7 as I switched from android to iphone, the UI is now super smooth and I can finally multi task so I can finally see what time is when using timer, and the mic&speaker are more useful than I though. The only downside is MUCH worse battery life, it lasts just barely 1.5 days with AOD off. Also apples own health/watch app is much worse than mi fit, and due to apples idiotic limitations there are like ten watch faces, fraction what mi band has.

Anonymous, 09 May 2022HUAWEI watch D (limited to China though) It is limited to China, because it would not receive any "medical" certification anywhere else.

Had to check "all of the above" in the second poll. They're all relevant, I think? Large display is probably a bit personal but I do suspect that must people who start their smart watch life with a small-display watch will go for a larger when upgrading. I went from a tiny Samsung GWA to a large GWC4 and haven't looked back.

I have the Huawei gt 2 pro with my Samsung device yes this works fine after installing the Huawei health apk and it is still my favorite watch now don't get me wrong it cant load up the whole play store but it tracks what i need makes phone calls and receives phone calls and all the heart rate and step stuff, but the main payoff is its crystal screen that cant scratch the complete waterproof so i can go anywhere with it even in my hot tub and the big one 2 week battery life.

Anders, 08 May 2022I really don't see the point of a smart watch. It'... moreSometimes you can’t reach into your pocket or don’t have your phone on you. My phone stays in my locker when I’m in the lab at work.

Fitbit sense for me. It would be an Apple Watch but in my own opinion, it does too much at the cost of battery life.

In agreement with some of the comments below I believe a smartwatch should (besides telling the time and some obvious health related features) offer only an extension for some of the functionality of a smartphone, not try to replicate all of that functionality.

The sense is almost the perfect compromise between relevant health features, limited replication of my phones notification system, that is to say the ability to view notifications on my wrist in order to triage what requires my immediate attention. And finally, decent multiday battery life.

If Apple were to release something like and Apple Watch lite, that focused on only on those core features like health, viewing (but not interacting with) notifications, and perhaps Apple pay, but with a battery life of at least what the sense offers, which is around 5-6 days. All at a price similar to that of the current Watch SE, then I'll be on board. Till then I'll stick with the Sense.

Any watch with less than 1 day of battery life, especially at prices in excess of £400 is simply a no go for me.
