Folding phones aren't even that great. You have to constantly decide whether you want to unfold it or not and for video content, the aspect ratio is totally wrong as you end up not really benefitiing from larger display at all because it's square shaped (it's like watching 16:9 video on old 4:3 or 5:4 monitor), making it only really useful for web browsing and use of apps. Assuming they are even designed for such square format.

Not gonna lie, foldable phones, what a waste of time, and this is coming from a guy with the 13 pro. So many mistakes can be made from this, plus, they will look really bad. Idk, I like the original look of a phone, not a flip phone…

Darknoor, 11 May 2022crApple fans then: Folding phones? Pointless. crApple fans... moreThat is correct

Samsung Fans now: Look! We have a foldable phone! Much better than the iphone.
Samsung Fans later: Oh no! We have scratch the display with our nails! Damn those pointy nails! Gotta get me a Nail Cutter.
World: Very crazy people buying a $2000+ foldable smartphone. Only for them to be scratched. And get water damage. Makes me wonder. Do they pay $600 just to replace the inner display or just let it be??

Anonymous , 11 May 2022You're a proven Apple guy lol. As I already taught App... more"You're a proven Apple guy" what the hell does that even mean lol? Also you claim you'll teach me what LTPO is, yet you say NOTHING useful. Well, I'll actually teach you since I'm apparently a "proven Apple guy". Apple used LTPO display on Apple Watch 5 (AW5) for the first time which enabled them to do Always-on Display (AOD) feature with nearly zero compromise. When AW5 is in dimmed AOD mode, it's refreshing at 1Hz and because of that it can display basically the same watch face as in active 60Hz (I'm assuming they aren't using any higher refresh because it's not needed on a watch) state without draining much battery. I've been using AW5 for 3 years and a half and AOD is amazing. In AOD it just dims a bit, but retains same watch face as you've selected it. Most other watched switch to entirely different watch face to save power in AOD mode.

There is no need to have all out adaptive mode like on phones from 1Hz to 120Hz and everything in between. You're never interacting with a watch so much to require that. And this still doesn't change the fact it's Apple's invention. Any phone that's using LTPO display, regardless of who actually manufactured it is using Apple's invention, whether you like it or not.

I'm sure an Apple foldable will sell like hotcakes. I would be interested to a foldable iPad mini, the same size as the current mini when folded then double in size when unfolded.

Is there something wrong with Apple being behind the race? Seriously, the foldable tech isn't even developed properly. It gets easily scratched, doesn't have the greatest camera, battery is still a concern, it's in a developing stage. It takes time to perfect it. Apple will launch it after 2025 so what? Samsung will also launch some foldables and they'll be in a competition, so choose a better one according to your needs. Personally, I would choose Apple because of its software and reliability, this is the main reason I go with Apple. Apple's Mac studio had a ridiculous price but still people bought it because it delivered what people needed.

Apple does what Apple does, waits for tech to reach maturity and mass market, so that production costs will be lower. Then they come out with a "game-changer", basically the same stuff with some tweaks and charge an arm and a leg for it. By the time Apple releases, the tech is mostly free of bugs etc, hence easy to sell as being of high quality, especially with Apple's tweaks after all the extra time they had before releasing. In the end, the more the merrier since it will help promote foldables, competition and innovation in the long run.
