GW, 03 Jun 2022There's a reason why Apple uses TSMC...Samsung's ... moreI agree with you, Qualcomm choosed TSMC for new flagship processor to produce, before 8 gen 1 Samsung's production was awful

Samsung's wafer yield lies are so egregious, the South Korean Government is currently investigating them AGAIN. Samsung's Vice Chairman (Lee Jae Yong) was just released from prison for embezzlement and bribery and had to be given a special pardon to meet with Biden.

Samsung just fired the head of the Semiconductor R&D, and It wasn't because he was doing a great job.

Samsung 3nm yields are still in the 20% range, and anything Samsung claims to the contrary, are lies (forward looking statements), by their own admission. They have repeatedly and continuously lied about their 5nm, 4nm, and 3nm yields, and after recently getting caught lying, admitted they were lying, now suddenly we are supposed to believe they have miraculously improved yields.

TSMC switches from Risk Production to Volume Production when yields are around 70%, and shortly after Volume Production matures, yields are around 90%.

The truth will be revealed soon enough, when both Samsung and Intel are forced to admit that their latest and most overly promised nodes are late, and then late again, and for the 3rd time late again, and ....

GW, 03 Jun 2022There's a reason why Apple uses TSMC...Samsung's ... moreYeah, it's called yields and supply capability. People need to stop over-exaggerating Samsung's fab nodes as "bad". They are slightly worse than TSMC, but the ultimate reason something performs significantly worse is because of how chip is designed. There is a reason why Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 performs better than Exynos 2200 even though they are both manufactured at Samsung and are roughly similar chips. Qualcomm just designed it slightly better which is why it performs better on exactly the same node.

Same reason why NVIDIA RTX 3000 series are excellent performing cards and they are all made on Samsung's node. They are different, sure as one is low power, the other is high power, but compared to AMD Radeon RX 6000 series made in TSMC, they still mostly beat them at pretty much everything. And when you're looking at high performance gaming, you don't really care that much if one card eats 50W more than other if it just has unmatched performance. It's like buying a Ferrari and worrying about gas consumption...

For heat, that's Google bldy problem, not Samsung. They shouldn't cheap out on using premium quality materials craftsmanship, using thick rear back carbon fibre or copper inductive or titanium.

People will would willing too pay extra $150, for this.

Look at the Sony pro-i, uses copper cooling double Chambers, it cost Sony £1000, and it has 4 dual 5g mm waves in all 4 corners, when everyone else uses 1 .
That's why Sony calls it a Pro. None has the rights Thierry phones too called Pro, when it's not.

The much beloved Snapdragon 845 was also made by Samsung foundries but nobody cared about this thing back then...

The main culprit behind the heating issues is due to the power hungry Cortex-X1 and Cortex-X2 cores idk if it's just the optimization or something else but the fabrication process has nothing to do with heating.
Even the Dimensity 9000 is heating up as it contains the Cortex-X2 cores.

Even Apple CPU don't use 2 Arm high-end cores.
People carry power bank with them, so even if it gives you 700mah less because it's on 4nm Vs 5nm.
Stop nagging, it doesn't cost you money or anything, and you worried about effeciny. Imagine you driving a car and putting petrol let alone driving 3.0 L engine.

If you're worried about heat, tell your manufacturers too use better premium materials like double copper cooling chambers, instead off blaming Snapdragon.
No phone even uses 50% off it's CPU, and imagine if it did, more than enough power.

Anonymous, 01 Jun 20221. It was referring to software optimization. Many people c... more1. Irrelevant. No one was even talking about anything software related. Also what about both Galaxy S22 versions? SD 8 Gen 1 and Exynos 2200 are two ENTIRELY different chips. Both fabbed at Samsung. Yet SD 8 Gen1 is significantly better performing with better efficiency. What does that tell you? That Samsung fab node sucks or that one chip is just designed badly/worse? After all, they are both made in the exact same chip foundry...

                                        2. Again, irrelevant. It was designed in such a way to achieve certain performance metrics which ended up being bad by design. It wouldn't particularly matter if TSMC fabbed it, if it was designed badly in the first place. Which is why we already see differences between SD 8 Gen 1 and Exynos 2200, both made in same foundry, both targeting about the same performance metrics and SD performing better.

                                        3. No, it comes down to how Qualcomm designed the chip and what was their projected performance/efficiency metric. They just cared about performance metric above all. Samsung having slightly less efficient fab node was not detrimental, it just additionally contributed to the problem.

                                        4. Everyone talking like Dimensity 9000 is the second coming of the Jesus yet a) it's nowhere to be seen except in some obscure China only models b) the performance and efficiency results were less than favorable on those few rare tests that did even leak out to the public outside of China and it wasn't as great as everyone portrayed it to be, despite being fabbed at "magical" TSMC. Because the chip simply isn't as great. It's apparently good effort by Mediatek, just like Dimensity 1000 series were, but just not there yet no matter who fabs the actual chip in the end.

                                        5. You can't compare them the way YOU are comparing them. For you, chipsets in Galaxy S22 for USA with Snapdragon and Galaxy S22 for Europe with Exynos 2200 are one and the same thing... because Samsung fabbed them. And you're applying same weird reverse logic that because SD 8+ Gen 1 is now fabbed at TSMC it's suddenly magically better all while throwing out the window the fact that SD 8+ Gen 1 and SD 8 Gen 1 aren't even the same chip. Qualcomm didn't just swap the fab process and magically made it 30% more efficient and 10% faster at the same time. TSMC's more advanced fab node CONTRIBUTED to that, but wasn't a detrimental thing. They redesigned and re-adjusted the SD 8+ Gen 1 chipset which is essentially a new chip and fabbed it at TSMC. SD 8+ Gen 1 and SD 8 Gen 1 are NOT the same chip made on different process node, they are two entirely different chips sharing same basic design principles.
