Funny that no mention of screen size

Alpha , 06 Jun 202216:9 lol are you in 2005?16:9 is still the perfect ratio for media imo. I've been using the 1 III for about a year now and 21:9 definitely has it's advantages and is perfect for cinema. But I'd still rather have a wider phone that is 16:9.

There should be a poll for just plain rectangular cornered displays that are flat and have no hole cutouts or any of the other BS.

Then you would have more room to actually cover your camera, have LED notification lights, real sensors, and physical navigation buttons.

I'm looking at the Galaxy S7.

Assuming the display is indestructible, then the Galaxy Note 7 FE

Full HD Plus is already great. I prefer flat screen and amoled technology.

OLED 1440p minimum. LCD 1080p minimum. subpixels matter.

I can’t tell the difference after FHD+ on a phone sized device, so it’s pointless for me personally.
I used to be an LCD purist not long ago, but even cheap AMOLED now on like redmi phones is good enough, doesnt hurt your eyes anymore and no more black smears. I would still go for high quality, calibrated LCD on bigger screens like tablets or computer display but for a phone and outdoors, AMOLED for sure.
I appreciate DC dimming to avoid eye fatigue, reinforced glass is obligatory. 120hz for phone, I can work with 60 on tablet and desktop tho.
Flat screen. Curved was a mistake.

You missed 3 great and simple yes/no questions:

                  1. Do you really want your display ruined by exaggerated round corners with a radius of one centimeter ?
                  2. Do you really want your display to be ruined by a notch, punch hole, slit cutout, or teardrop cutout ?
                  3. Do you really want an all display front without possibility of holding the phone without touching the screen, or the possibility of having an ever useful notification led on top bezel or real front facing stereo speakers or convenient fingerprint sensor as home button ?

I would have had great satisfaction to answer NO to all three :)

Resolution: anything 300ppi is good. Anything more than 400ppi is placebo.

Olympus Oms, 05 Jun 2022Just to let you know. We are still using pockets in our clo... moreYou weren't very specific on the aspect ratios. Pockets (for men) can fit any phone easily within 76mm. Screen sizes aren't really a great measure for how good it fits in the hand or pockets. I could fit a 7.6" screen in my pocket, because its a foldable with a width of 67mm when folded.

The iPhone 13 Mini which is already small to fit in any pocket is 5.4" and it's physically smaller than the 5" iPhone SE.

Just to let you know, pockets can be pretty deep and wide if you cut it out entirely. It also acts as ventilation. but thanks for letting me know I have big pocket privilege.

Righer, 06 Jun 202260hz is laggy and slow afYes, it is. Does require using a high-refresh rate display first to really show the nastiness that is 60 Hz, but once you notice it... Can't unsee that.

But if the matter is rgb amoled ...you should have a clearer picture because of the dot pixeling..it should be more detailed then... pixel density is the key when you zoom on a hd picture and looks for detailed frame..

Anonymous, 06 Jun 2022I can't understand why people would prefer OLED over I... moreI will help you understand. I have never faced burn in issues with the 2 amoled phones I have used. And I have used each for 3+ years.
In fact no amoled device in our family has that problem, even one phone at 5 years of use.
If that's the problem you tell about amoled, I will keep buying amoled phones. What if my next phone got the issue? I won't stop because that's 1 bad sample out of the 6 samples I have experienced.

QHD+ 60hz flat Amoled with HIGH PWM.
Though I prefer compact phones with FHD+ resolution.

When it comes to screen resolution on smartphones, FHD+ is more than good enough for me. That said, I don't mind having a higher resolution if the OS allows you to downgrade the screen resolution. Samsung and LG flagship phones can downgrade the screen resolution to as low as HD+, so I don't mind having QHD+ or 4K resolution if I have that kind of flexibility.

About AMOLED vs LCD, I still prefer LCD as it's cheaper to repair and more reliable since it doesn't suffer much from screen burn-in issues. I asked a few smartphone repair shops recently about fixing my Samsung Galaxy Note 8's broken AMOLED screen and it would cost me around $250. No thanks, I'll continue using mine solely as a DeX machine.

For display refresh rate, I'm more than happy to stay at 60Hz all the time. For all the hype about HRR on Android smartphones, the harsh reality is that very few apps and mobile games have such support in the first place. You are basically sacrificing battery juice for something that only very few Android apps are capable of going beyond 60Hz.

Flat or curved? No question, really. Flat all the way. I really can't fathom why anyone would want a curved screen when a screen protector for that kind of screen is almost impossible to find, unlike flat screen panels.

Looking at the options given for features, I'd put toughened glass as my top priority. People may not bring their smartphones underwater, but people always have their smartphones dropped, including myself. Having glass protection that can withstand drops from any height without a case is something I will definitely value a lot.

GD yobelvp, 06 Jun 2022Actually, higher refresh rate (90hz, 120hz, 144hz and highe... moreWell said. The only area where HRR makes sense is mobile gaming, but even that is a problem as not many mobile games can go beyond 60Hz despite having the phone set up to HRR mode in the first place.
