"a true laptop replacement"
It could have been that easily if they put effort into it but no.

dbjungle, 03 Jun 2022You can call them lazy devs, but Chrome still has about 65%... moreSo? Just because it's major browser doesn't mean you just won't even bother checking compatibility in others. We had same lazy approach back when Internet Explorer had majority share.

Spanky, 03 Jun 2022Instead if all these OS „upgrades“, they should just focus ... moreThe ipad has better pro apps period. The processor is better and support is also better. The quality of the device is better. But you are right the price needs to be about 20% lower.
Apple needs to allow multi user support. So I can have a work account and personal.
I have the tabs8 ultra, which I am typing on and an ipad 11inch which is now with one of my kids. If I could have an M1 plus the some of the apps that ipad has, this would be the best tablet ever.

I still use my iPad Mini 6 regularly, but I get pissed off about all the limitations just as regularly. I might sell it whenever I can get my hands on a Y700 for a reasonable price.

SShock, 03 Jun 2022It looks weird because lazy web admins only make webpages f... moreYou can call them lazy devs, but Chrome still has about 65% market share even on mobile. It's the same reason why commercial applications usually only target Windows or Mac and Linux users get left out in the cold. A much more important concern is that Apple intentionally keeps PWA limited on iOS so that they maintain a deathgrip on software (and profits) of anything running on the platform. There is no legitimate reason there isn't an officially supported method to run other browser engines, even if it were something that had to be done via a desktop computer. It's all about money and that's unfortunate. Things like this are the main reason why I typically avoid iOS as a rule. Unfortunately Android and ChromeOS manufacturers ignored small tablets so long that I eventually caved and bought an iPad Mini 6. I'm not an Apple hater, I have no problems with MacOS, just iOS specifically.

Anonymous, 03 Jun 2022Xiaomi??? Are you joking 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣It may seem a bit ridiculous, but these other tablets do have a better multitasking workflow even if they're no where near as powerful as a lot of iPads. I don't really get Apple's end game here. They make tablets more and more powerful, but it remains incredibly limited in other ways. I'm able to get more done on my Chromebook Duet with a Helio P60 than my iPad Mini 6 with an A15. The performance is way better on the iPad, but all of the artificial limitations make it overall less useful. Ideally, I'd like a Chromebook Duet that has the size and performance of the iPad Mini 6. 👌

Spanky, 03 Jun 2022Instead if all these OS „upgrades“, they should just focus ... moreI don't know about EU, but the base iPad in India at least is the best vfm tablet imo (for ~$400), there isn't much competition really!
Sure the xiaomi Pad5 launched at a lower price with 120Hz and 128GB storage but the performance is still behind A13 (which should be upgraded this yr), not to mention it doesn't even have microSD slot nor 3.5mm jack, the latter of which, the ipad has. If they released the Pad5 Pro w/ SD870, then it would've been much better deal imo. Imagine Samsung selling crap tablets like the S6 Lite for slightly less or the S7 FE for Rs.10k more!! I was just hoping for the Oppo/Realme Pad as well as the Legion Y700 to launch here in the 30-40k segment, then there would at least be viable options compared to the iPad. Btw all these tablets for some unknown reason also omit basic FP readers!!🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️

Anonymous, 03 Jun 2022" they need to allow browser engines other than Safari... moreAll browsers on iOS use the Safari engine. It doesn't matter what browser it is be it Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera, Firefox, etc. They're all essentially skins of Safari on iOS / iPadOS. Apple doesn't allow any other browser engine by policy.

Anonymous, 03 Jun 2022" they need to allow browser engines other than Safari... moreBasically any Web view in an app has to use webkit/effectively safari and not their own render.
Safari used to be good but its now lagging behind in compatibility compares to chrome or Firefox.
Been a few occasions where some of our css didn't work because safari not up to date.

More importantly, ... more" they need to allow browser engines other than Safari "
What does that mean exactly, I wanted to know. I have a (older) base iPad at home and would want to understand what/how it affects browsing/browsers!
