GTX 1650 Ti Mobile is 50% > than... moreThe fact that you are comparing dGPU vs M2's iGPU, already means how impressive this is.
And besides, they are focusing on performance per watt on their M2 line ups, like MBA or MBP13, these are thin and lightweight machines, and yet you are pulling in fat and noisy gaming laptops to compare.

Deus22, 06 Jun 2022Nope, that's wrong. AMD is worse than Intel on the mob... moreAbout the M1 and M2, been working with a macbook pro m1 chip with 8 cores, and to be honest with you, limited to using 1 monitor sucks and the laptop is not as fast when you push it harder with many tasks as a conventional laptop o desktop computer, it is what it is.
New Ryzen are much better than intel counterparts at least in consumption/power ratio department.
But of course for "regular" users who just consume normal apps and do not tend to really multitask it will be plently fast and quiet.
Not trying to deny the work done here, but these processors come from ARM cortex cpu cores, nothing special from apple, and also there is one more thing, ARM is a RISK not CISC processor, so that is why the difference in power consumption.
But anyway apple will say this destroys a 3090 TI like they did with the M1 Max, and ended up being completely false statement, but watever this is for fanboys mostly.

GTX 1650 Ti Mobile is 50% > than Apple M1.
so now, Apple M2 is only 35% better than Apple M1?
Can it match GTX 1650 Ti Mobile?
Meanwhile, most Windows gaming Laptop GPU is moving to even better RTX 3050 onwards.
Mac Pro is using AMD Radeon W5500X, Better than M1 GPU since it's the expensive Mac Pro compared to cheaper M1 laptop?
Looking at some benchmark, A RTX 3060 is better GPU to W5500.

With features like continuity, universal clipboard, handsoff. So you can get the OTP on your Mac without even touching iPhone (If it is SMS). And if its like google authenticator, you just click on the OTP, it will transfer to Mac via universal clipboard.
Auto tether, allows you to tether from iPhone if you do not have wifi nearby.
Markup, by pressing spacebar on Macs, the file (pdf or image or anything) will be available for markup on your iPhone / iPad.
And with the strength of Macs, you can use Parallels to transfer all your i5's data as a Windows VM in Mac. Then you have best of both worlds. Minus the touch screen of course.

I do really like the efficiency of these CPUs. I have Macbook Pro M1 and HP Elitebook with i5-8250U.
I am using external monitor with keyboard, mouse, USB hub and couple of phones connected to the hub, all connected to monitor and then to laptop. I switch between these laptops on demand.
The M1 consumes around 5W (this includes the charger and the hub (USB-C to C, A, HDMI)
The i5 consumes around 15W ( same charger, no intermediate USB hub, as it has all the A and HDMI i need)
There is one game i play daily.
M1 consumes ~15W. Running smooth (60fps) with medium-high graphics settings.
i5 consumes ~30W. Running poorly (most of time cant keep the 60fps) with minimal settings.
There is one big downside to the macbooks. There is no model with touch screen. My HP elitebook has the touch screen and i have never used mouse nor trackpad since day one of purchasing this thing. M1 is great for stationary work, but HP still beats it at portability. Oh, and HP has built in LTE modem, which was a must for portability.
I wish apple made macbook with touchscreen and LTE, i could really ditch HP then.

Fulljack, 06 Jun 2022Apple decides not to compare with AMD Rembrandt (Ryzen 6000... moreProbably because AMD took WAY TOO LONG to release Ryzen 6000U to OEMs and eventually real customers. There's only one U-series model available right now - Zenbook S 13 - which Notebookcheck did test and compare... to the old M1 chip. Thus predictably, it scored very well.
All other Ryzen 6000 chips available right now are of the H and HX variety, but those are for GAMING LAPTOPS. It makes NO SENSE to compare the 25-30W M2 on the MacBook Air against an ROG Duo 16 with an 80W 6900HX when the MBA is thinner than just the KEYBOARD DECK of the ROG...

Deus22, 06 Jun 2022Nope, that's wrong. AMD is worse than Intel on the mob... moreAMD is worse in terms of unit sales due to lower manufacturing output. in mobile space, especially low wattage system at 28W or lower, AMD absolutely destroys all of Intel's top SKU with only one SKU. 1280P and 1265U are nothing compared to 6800U. and don't get me started on iGPU.
Intel's no longer the best. AMD has taken the crown a long time ago with Zen 2.

captain fokou, 06 Jun 2022I will trust only numbers from reputable reviews. Apple is ... moreM1 Ultra seems to aggressively scale the performance level of its iGPU depending on the tasks it works on rather than maxing it out 100% all the time. The fact that its graphics cores only consume an average of 50-55W while running moderately GPU-intensive benchmarks such as Wild Life Extreme stress test, and even lower (< 30W) on some apps like Blender. It's quite odd considering that it's not thermally limited, in fact the fans stay at around the base RPM for the entire time even if you throw everything at it in an attempt to ramp up their speed.
I don't know what causes this as certain apps (e.g. GFXBench) can indeed take an advantage of Ultra's extra performance, but I guess that's the biggest reason why Apple focused on performance-per-watt instead of talking about the absolute peak performance during the presentation.
