USB-C ports on devices aren't a problem. I mean, Apple controls about 10% of the market ...noone cares! What they should regulate instead is USB-A so that no chargers, power sockets or cables are USB-A. That's driving me nuts! And more importantly, regulate the frigging charging standards. As in, if I buy a 50W charger and have a 50W capable phone, it will charge at 50W no matter who made them. Same with wireless charging.

blue, 07 Jun 2022There's one more thing that would block a true reducti... morePD (PowerDelivery) standard allegedly addresses that. But since some use it and some don't and then it's down to device still having to negotiate the speed and whatever charge speed limit device has hard wired and then you get whatever you get. I generally get pretty good speeds on my RAVPower 4 port charger for my iPhone as well as QC3.0 phones. But these aren't ridiculous wattages like they sell these days. But it's fast enough still. Been using 2.4A chargers for ages and they are sufficiently quick for my needs.

Aadrian, 07 Jun 2022Good news and about time, one of the few things the EU does... moreThere's one more thing that would block a true reduction of e-waste - different charging protocols by manufacturer. When I connect Samsung's charger to iPhone, it does not switch to fast charge. A 20 W charger in my car does not charge Samsung faster even though it has the power. And it's the same with Realme or Xiaomi. So, in case I want to use fast charging, I would need several different chargers.
This should have been solved too.

SShock, 07 Jun 2022Lets not forget the fact that Lightning was adopted across ... moreI haven't seen a microUSB phone for at least four years, at least not in Europe. Maybe somewhere in India or Africa this port is still being used, but not here.
And for adoption? Well, making three devices on a single charging port is nothing complicated. Making the whole world is something different. No reason to praise Apple for something.
But there should have been done much more, as I wrote before. Since many other devices are still using micro or even mini USB, this does not really help. With really full USB-C standard I would not need five charging cables as I do now...

Good news and about time, one of the few things the EU does right. It's good to standardise things to prevent e-waste. In that case the missing charger in the box isn't that big a deal. I have multiple USB-C chargers of which I only use one. Of course I have to use a separate charger to charge my iPhones when I want to use those, but with the standard chargers that will be history.

Kudos to EU for bringing this change for ppl stuck with lightning (most of the other gadgets already come with type-C, so we Android ppl weren't bothered too much at all anyways).
Let's see if Apple 'innovates' a portless iphone next yr or not, their marketing pitch would be interesting?!!

Apple had already been testing USB-C prototypes and I can imagine the iPhone 15 will have already been designed as USB-C for launch in 2024.
Apple should have never even done Lightning, they could have been USB-C pioneers like they were with Firewire and USB-A but they messed it up.

Anders, 07 Jun 2022From 2024. So no doubt the EU asked Apple when they were re... moreEU's "strong stance" consists mostly of heavy fines against Google and Microsoft, while Apple only faces press-release wars and other minor attrition while getting away with pretty much anything. Apple's has a closed ecosystem with arbitrary non-negotiable fees that pretty much constitutes a monopoly for anyone publishing anything in iOS: EU stamps its approval. Google allows installing alternative stores, avoid most (if not all) of their Android fees, even replacing the whole ROM in the phone by a 3rd-party and independently compiled ROM from Open Source code: EU cries anti-trust and presents Google with an historic fine. I'm sorry, but that's just idiotic.
