USB-C port will be mandatory for all small and medium-sized electronics sold in EU from 2024

Rosso, 07 Jun 2022People aren't talking about cheaper phones using micro... moreAh yes, the good old price comparison bulls**t, even though we're talking price difference in literal cents. Raising price of phone for 5€ because USB-C port costs 5 cents more will totally deter buyers. Totally. But no one is outraged about that, on contrary, you folks even defend it with such ridiculous excuses like "because it's cheap". But Apple, lets make an example of that and drag its name all over the news even though they didn't just sit around with thumbs up their rear and actually developed a first mini reversible connector before USB-C was even a thing. Lol?

sounds great on paper, but there are 2 sides to everything (seen vs unseen)
the seen part is that we will only need to buy 1 cable and connect every device and stop muh global warming
the unseen part is that the government is, as always, expanding its power and telling you what you can or cannot produce

vrvly, 07 Jun 2022We are on 200W already, what cannot use that. Soon even vac... moreI have 3 vacuum cleaners, two of witch are well over 1000W and one is portable. USB PD is still far from getting to 1000W. Also it would be kinda hard to get 1000w through a usb-c connector, just because of physical dimensions. I'd be surprised if anything beyond 400W would be possible without introducing new age materials.

David, 07 Jun 2022As in work alongside the USB-IF to develop the USB-C standa... moreIn 2012 everyone was happy with microUSB, calling it an "all-standard", which it never was. Then Apple came with Lightning. USB-C was being developed with USB 3.0, that dates back to 2013. Apple was already using USB ports on their computers and laptops, though only USB-A.
And you tell me that it was not a reaction to Lightning? If it was not, how come Apple did their own thing? I remember how Apple fans hated them for Lightning, since they had everything at home prepared for old 30pin... So, if they decided for such a change, why would they invest so much in a new port instead of joining USB-C? Easy - there was none.

While in 5 years a new more advance charing method will be implemented by the world, the europeans will have to wait for another law to let access again for a different charing than usbC
Thank god this wasnt a move back then when we had miniusb, we wouldnt had usbC nowadays

I don't agree the USB-C was a reaction to Lightning, it was already something that was being worked on going way back to the days of USB-A when people were complaining it was not reversible.

maybe my statement doesn't have a direct link to this article but:
i don't understand why smartphone companies don't offer a charger out of the box. i mean, if it is so terrible for the environment, then they should at least give you the option to choose whether you want a charger delivered together with your phone or that you are asked in the store to get an additional charger for free next to your phone. but no, smartphone companies force you to pay extra money for the charger.

I'd wager one kidney that Apple, like most others will stop using physical ports on new devices around 2024. This feels like they've deliberately dragged their feet with a 7-year "investigation" into what a USB port is.
"When are you okay with us putting this into law, Tim?".
