Flashback: a decade of Xiaomi battery and fast charging tech

12 June 2022
Xiaomi is a huge fan of fast charging - at least when it comes to wired charging. Fast wireless solutions may have began to fall out of favor.

After using my phone for 2 years with >90% fast charging (33w), my phone still last full day. There will be a minor

Fast charging is good. I dont care about batery's health. I replace my battery once every 2 years at the official service center. Xiaomi/Oppo/Realme service centers are great in my country.

However I still prefer Samsung as my Android phone. They are presently very conservative in that respect. For well known reasons.

Why the obsession with super fast charging? My Poco F3 came with a 67 watt fast charger but it heats the battery to the point where it would shorten it's lifespan so I have reverted to a slower charger which keeps the phone cool. Maybe that's Xiaomi's remit, the fastest the charger, the sooner people will need to buy a new phone. Don't fall for it, slower chargers are good, fast chargers are bad so if you love your phone DON'T USE THEM.

Qi charging test. Samsung (15W) was the only phone to remain below 43 celsius degrees.
Honor (and its 100W ) was the hottest.

              My nephew use iphone.
There is option in iphone where it shows how good the battery is. She shows that the battery is 94% after about eight months and brags about it. She gives me xyz reasons about why iPhone's charging speed it the perfect choice. Why super fast charging is bad for xyz reasons. You know, typical iZombie. Then she always runs out of battery before afternoon without doing any gaming like I do.

Yet with my Xiaomi i get a great great battery life.
Why people like you talk like some kind of genius? To me, in reality you just talk too much. Talkative like those iZombies who eat whatever those so called mkbhd tells you about battery life and become brainless to repeat that eaten sentence again and again, "fast charging is bad, fast charging is bad, my lord youtubers said fast charging is bad "

              I feel sad for you.

I use 12X and the charging speed is insane. Almost 100% in half hour!

pilarius, 12 Jun 2022According to the article power input was from the same 67W ... moreYou still don't get it, and I am not sure, if I want to explain that.
You only talk about the charging time and input into the phone. That can be the same, or nearly the same. It is only limited by the battery and its regulatory circuits.
I am talking about input INTO CHARGER, which is much more different, but that's something you can't see at home without other equipment. That's what efficiency means.
If you don't get it even now, then... well, no one can help you, go on living in your dreams.

Xiaomi's charging technology development is pretty boring in my opinion

One thing I do like is xiaomi's MMT charging approach to get around resistance in the battery as it Charges

Oppo is where the bleeding each world leading fast charging is at

For those that want bigger batteries go an buy the oukitel wp19 it has a 21000mah

I owned the Xiaomi 11t Pro with 120w charging and it got too hot as it charged up. The battery life was a bit useless useles as well and left a sour taste. Sold it and bought the Poco X4 5g at 67w - phone stays relatively cool when charging and the battery lasts two days. Much cheaper but much better :)

next thing to check is how batteries are doing over time...
like, can we check the deterioration on xiaomi batteries that were release a decade ago, 9 years ago and so on...
so we will be able to know if we can move from the "faster charging, deteriorates battery faster" narrative... or to confirm it, if it does...

Battery technology has improved significantly. Currently im using Oppo phone with 65w charging. And im not feeling that the Battery is degraded, my phone still last full day without charging and i charge it once a day every 4a.m and i don't see any difference since day 1.

Im sure the faster charging wont do any harm to Battery.

I need a longer-lasting tech and not fast charging. Max I want is 25w.

My phones all last more than 6 years on me and none of them had their battery degraded too much. Seriously, people have a lot of time on their hands to spend all of it in front of their phones. Perhaps use a laptop when the phone is charging.

Endurance is preferable than fast charge tech, at least for me.

That's just me anyways. Innovation is acceptable tho.
