Sony Xperia 1 IV disassembled on video, compared to the Mark 3

16 June 2022
The new periscope module on the 1 IV is only slightly larger than that of the 1 III. Other parts still need work, however, especially the cooling.

My friends can't use their wireless all day/when the battery runs dry. Some even resort to using one piece while the other one is charging lmao.

I can use wired AND wireless whenever I want to. It runs out of battery? I just connect the wires and keep going lol.

Don't fix if it aint broken. Besides the cooling solution it's the same good phone as last year, the only flagship still offering it all from what I can tell

Anonymous, 17 Jun 2022periscope is 40MP '/1.76" cropped , like mark 2 ... moreThat's false and makes no sense given the physical size and the CFA of IMX650 (1/1.54 inch 40MP, 16-in-1 Bayer with an effective resolution of 2.5MP when fully binned). The module's z-height needs to be increased drastically to fit in such a massive sensor, even if only the centre portion is being used to capture light. AIDA64 is definitely reporting wrong information here.

Sales don't completely mean everything because if we are to talk about pure sales only, then why do mid-rangers outsell every single flagship with no headphone jacks in recent years?
Many people still consider the analog jack as an important feature for smartphones, and that it must not be taken away for absolutely no freakin' good reason. Besides, having the jack would NOT mean that wireless audio can no longer be used or whatsoever. You can enjoy wireless audio all you want and still have the convenience of using wired audio devices in case that your wireless audio peripherals ran out of juice.

But we're not seeing that. Instead, we're seeing collective APATHY towards the headphone jack except for audiophiles and those who can't - or won't let go. Besides, wireless earphones are so much better when you're doing a lot of physical fitness activities (the headphone cord would just get tangled up in the machines and render your precious WIRED earphones e-waste).

This phone doesn't turn profit at $900. Simple as that. Way too much complex R&D has put into it regarding pretty much everything from display, battery optimization to ridiculously featured cameras.

Sony making a foldable flip phone makes sense considering Japan still loves them and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series are the S series or their other slabs that are tall but can fold.

Many recent Xperias are practically the same dimensions as my Flip 3 when it's unfolded. It's tall but fairly narrow. My Flip 3 just happens to fold. A tall Xperia slab would stick out of my very shallow pockets. A holster case would still be a problem.

Please give us a Xperia Z Flip / Razr, Sony. I want a microSD slot and headphone jack on my next flip phone. I'll be curious for the Xperia 5 IV but I really want a beautifully designed Sony flip phone.

Components are bought many months before devices are announced. Not 1 week before factories start making phones.

When qualcomm announced the chip in early december, brands already hadunits to use for first batch. They have had chip samples since july-august to test.

The deal qualcomm/tsmc was not even official in march. You cannot just return all 8g1 chips to qualcomm or throw them in the trash to use 8+ instead.
Companies have schedules, any delays cause impact to other projects, supply chain and even hit finances.

I am not even counting the fact new SoC requires the software to be done from zero.

I can already imagine your scandal when you find out 5iv uses 8g1 and not the Plus.
