Anonymous, 22 Jun 2022Probably only 3 devices have this SoC, but there is a very ... moreQualcomm forbidding OEMs from using Dimensity 9000 in their phones? That is a funnier claim to make by anyone. I know you are not making it, but whoever is making it is ill-informed. OEMs are not using Dimensity 9000 in phones launched internationally because Mediatek CANNOT make enough of them (large quantities) at a reasonable price (a fairly high price for this specific SoC in any case, price closer to SD 888/SD 8 Gen 1) for OEMs to be able to use it. There is absolutely no other reason behind it. So far, Dimensity 9000/9000+ are just show-case pieces for Mediatek that they can produce high-end SoCs similar to Qualcomm. Basically, a marketing ploy, nothing more. Mediatek will earn respect as a high-end SoC maker when they can mass-produce them and make them available in phones launched internationally, like Qualcomm is doing year after year.

Man these Chinese developed chips have ways to go. The last one I used in an LG Velvet 5G heated up very often and stutters everytime I try opening more than one app up.

DLmenIsty 9000+ is now OVER 9000!! But even the company's boss can't spell correctly. This says a lot about how good the SOC can compute.

Muthu, 22 Jun 2022I don't understand the usefulness of this announcement... moreFor bragging rights I am guessing. SD8+G1 was comprehensibly superior to D9000, so they had to bring out something to match it.

Comparing SD8+G1 to D9000+.. there isn't much to differentiate between the two: clocks are almost similar and both are fabbed on the same TSMC N4.

Agree with your point about availability though. D9000 phones should have had wider availabilty by now. Only possinle explanation is that Mediatek couldnt secure a large enough supply for N4 chips. And now that Qualcomm is also competing for the same chips (and has much more financial muscle), so I suspect D9000+ will also remain as a halo product.

But at least D8000/D8100 are doing well for Mediatek, and there wont be any supply constraint in this case (as they are based on N5 and since Apple has now moved on to N5P for their latest chips, Mediatek can have as many of N5 chips as it requires).

Nice. All they need now is ensure that it is stable and no heating or major throttling issues. Then it would be another huge win for them.

I don't understand the usefulness of this announcement by Mediatek. Dimensity 9000 was announced almost 7 months ago (Nov-2021). How many phones with that Dimensity 9000 SoC are available for international buyers in Jun-2022? ZERO. Absolutely 0 phones are available with that SoC internationally. Then, what is the point of announcing its successor, if it is also not going to be available in phones launched internationally?

Mediatek needs a better presence in the west. Even if I want a Dimensity 9000 chipset, I simply can't have one because models meant for west all have SD 8 Gen 1 and for china they get Dimensity 9000. All we get is Helio G and P trash for low end models and that's it. Come on, we want Mediatek chipsets and we can't have them. Importing is not an option because of Chinese ROM's and cell bands that are not used in Europe or US but are in China.

But I still hope for SD to make a surprise comeback and keep their throne.
