Samsung tipped to start the mass production of 3nm chips next week

22 June 2022
Samsung’s 3nm node will bring a 35% decrease in area, 30% higher performance or 50% lower power consumption compared to its 5nm process.

Samsung to start Volume (Mass) Production rumor was as exactly as I had stated, BS.

Due to extremely low yields, Samsung hasn’t even started Risk (Trial) Production.

phone manufacturers who manage to make 4ghz processor phones without a fan could be the next legends. i want that 4ghz but not the fan. No

hope we see 3nm in S23. Hope it manages to beat SD chips somehow. hope it helps them make more compact phones (not possible i guess untill ram fabrication also goes 3nm!!!)

Seems pretty decent, but im not sure if they took idle power into consideration like anandtech does. And anandtech is dead for these in depth reviews since andrei and ian are gone.

The real problem is too much heat generation in a tiny area. Everyone is going to run into this problem. The solution is to go for Chiplet Design till 3D cooling matures. Efficiency cores should be on a previous generation node.

Samsung produced chips are worse than TSMC, that's the fact unfortunately

Qlord, 23 Jun 2022Ask Nvidia and Qualcomm if they are taping-out any Samsung ... moreSamsung had a lot reasons to push towards GaA. Yields will improve and everyone else is at least two years behind. However tools ecosystem design changes will be challenging (as its pioneer work really) hopefully Synapses and others will help regarding IP portfolio. The improvement of two orders of magnitude (duble) is a lot even if their previous half node whosent great. Actually we hadn't had such gains probably from a FinFet switch from planars (unfortunately FD-SOI never really materialised in any significant form which is shame really). The real question is the price and how much ecosystem Samsung can provide and that will make or break it (including advanced packaging, interconnects and stacking).

Great can't wait for how your 3nm chips will lose to iPhone 14 5nm battery comparison as both Samsung and Snapdragon 4nm chips also lost to iPhone 13.

Ask Nvidia and Qualcomm if they are taping-out any Samsung 3nm chips, after getting burned by Samsung claiming that their 5nm and 4nm yields where 70%, when they were actually closer to 25%.

I’ll bet they have ZERO 3nm foundry customers.

Links to pathetic yields for Samsung's 5nm, 4nm, and 3nm, from just 8 weeks ago.
