Samsung tipped to start the mass production of 3nm chips next week

22 June 2022
Samsung’s 3nm node will bring a 35% decrease in area, 30% higher performance or 50% lower power consumption compared to its 5nm process.

Aren't we allowed to compare different product if they're of same class and cost the same?
What's worse, those old chips are more efficient, heat less and consume less battery despite feeling same in day to day use.

Only 8+g1 and dimensity 9000 are better.

Even 7nm from TSMC is better than Samsung's 3nm. At least 870 doesn't overheat like those

Kai, 22 Jun 2022Samsung doesn't know how to manufacture chips properly... moreOh god, can we stop with this nonsense already? Equating fab node with chip design quality? Snapdragon 8 Gen1 and Exynos 2200 are both made on exactly the same node using Samsung fab process and yet Snapdragon still performs significantly better. Wait, I thought you all said it's all down to Samsung being terrible. Pick one. *sigh*

Chip design is a defining factor, the quality of fabrication is just a cherry on top and helps chips go for the crown. Bad one just makes chips slightly worse, not super worse.

It's also funny how everyone talks how much better old chips were because they were made on TSMC's fab process, entirely ignoring they were ENTIRELY DIFFERENT CHIPS.

Samsung doesn't know how to manufacture chips properly even if a gun is put on their head.
This is evident by the sustained performance and power efficiency compared to previous Qualcomm chips.
The Exynos chips have are also undelivered and overpromised.
I think the chipset right now which strikes a good balance between sustained performance and power efficiency is the Dimensity 8100.
Before this it was Snapdragon 865 and 870.

Daimon, 22 Jun 2022The chip is more efficient. But the sensors, modem, camera,... moreWell, unlike the chipset, the rest is not being used all the time, right?

The chip is more efficient. But the sensors, modem, camera, gps, wifi, bluetooth etc are still draining the battery.
50% chip efficiency does not mean 50% longer battery life.

yeah, sure...bla bla bla....we've heard this so many times it just makes me vomit. 50% better, cooler, smaller, etc, etc and we get almost the same dish. And this applies to everybody, not just Samsung. It's like an electoral campaign, where everybody promises the sky until they are elected, or you buy the product. Just quietly try to do it and if you succeed say it but please, don't sell us promises, don't say anything, it's better.

Typo : 45% not 35% area reduction according to source :

Could leave the performance as it is and use all that 50% gain in power efficiency for once.

Lol their 3nm process is fake , its probably will match tsmc's 4nm process

What are the odd that after years of pathetically low yields from Samsung's 5nm and 4nm chips, which are using DECADES OLD FinFET technology, that suddenly their BRAND NEW Gate-All-Around (GAA) technology will have excellent yields?

Especially since not many weeks ago, it was reported that Samsung's BRAND NEW 3nm GAA yields were around 15%.

After getting caught claiming that their 5nm and 4nm yields where 70%, when they were actually closer to 25%.
