Samsung tipped to start the mass production of 3nm chips next week

22 June 2022
Samsung’s 3nm node will bring a 35% decrease in area, 30% higher performance or 50% lower power consumption compared to its 5nm process.

SShock, 22 Jun 2022Jesus, not this nonsense again, floods of clueless people l... moreQualcomm, a loyal friend (due to phone deals) of Samsung, was forced to use TSMC's 4nm node, eventually -- Why? Samsung lovers can argue all they want, but technologies do not lie! For example, Intel cannot simply leapfrog over TSMC by bullshitting alone:-)

Whoever believes that at the scale level of only a few nm one can know with any degree of certainty what electrons are doing, considering how thin the walls of a single gate are, not to even mention the reliability of these same walls, should think again. By the way, even at 20 nm one has fairly low certainty knowing precisely what individual electrons are really up to.

X nm usually only means how small the traditional "planar" transistors would have to get to have the same performance/same density as the 3d ones.

I sincerely believe that the mobile industry will soon reach a peak . For many manufacturers it already has.

Heck even Qualcomm migrated to TSMC for a reason (and will stay with them for a while) as has Nvidia too.

Samsung phones are going to be cheaper by next year. They have 50 millions unused phones. While xiaomi phones increasing their price, see f4, x4 gt. Your choice. I stick with Samsung

Jesus, not this nonsense again, floods of clueless people larping about inferiority of Samsung fab nodes and how Exynos sucks this and TSMC awesome that. Yawn.

s8g1+ is already promising %30 power efficiency compared to s888 with 5nm. so,3nm will not make much of a difference, then.

If it's exynos, it's not worth writing about.

Wouldn't trust Samsung chips anymore, they just aren't in the race when mediatek and qualcomm are using tsmc and producing better chips. Samsung had 1 last chance with the partnership with AMD and they've messed that up. Going to be the worst chip amongst the big boys.
