Pixel 7's Tensor 2 chipset might offer only modest performance improvements

22 June 2022
A bricked Pixel 7 Pro prototype was examined, which revealed the presence of a Cortex-A55 cores. This means no ARMv9 designs for the next Google chipset.

Hmmm. Splitting hairs really on a rather non issue. Just enjoy your pixel.

For the screen the "E3" part of the model number is the interesting bit. The newest panels from Samsung are E5 so two generations behind like the rest of the phone

But if you want, you can install anything. I never found anything interesting on those Samsung, Sony,LG skin. Google makes and maintains the whole android OS.What a great achievements have those third party android manufacturers for adding a few lousy features. They have nothing to do,at least they can add a few features.Come on man...

Pixel is just a tiny fraction of Google's revenue. So, it is not worth having own chip like Apple. So, should have kept Qualcomm as supplier.

DMX, 22 Jun 2022You have never shaken hands with a pixel 6 pro in your life... moreGot the pixel 6 pro in black, had it since January and its the worst device I've used since the Xperia z1.

From taking 4 hours to charge to full (40w charger with a 5a cable, it won't accept the cable and trickle charges on about 5w) to Bluetooth connection issues to auto brightness just being awful and constantly dimming too much. Overheats trying to record 4k video, yesterday I had it where my phone was constantly swapping lightning conditions while recording a video (kept going from cool blue to a red/yellow colour rendition every half a second and going dim to actual lightning condition aswell). Fingerprint sensor is still unstable and slow at times aswell. Speakers are outstanding and the new PO pixel app that turns your videos in to a soundboard is pretty cool. The song identification feature is scarily accurate for distance, loud area places, picks up songs really well, that's probably the best feature.

[deleted post]You'd rather trust GSMArena over wikichip? Of course armv9 is compatible with V8.

Also btw, I'm not sure but i think Cortex X2 can be limited to run on armv8 exclusively and not use the armv9 ABI.

So basically higher midrange performance combined with top level AI performance.
In short, it might not have pure performance at the level of other flagships.
But camera performance etc, will be top level

Georgi, 22 Jun 2022Pixels phones are one of the most featured packed phones , ... moreYeah Pixel is so full of features. Just look at any other skin and you can make list of stuff pixels lack.

Even moto E has manual mode for camera. Pixel 6 does not.

Not even counting when google adds something to android, other skins have had it for years. Just with android 7, stock android got the Restart button and option to turn off shutter sound.

Home screen landscape mode added to android 11, I have had since 5.0.1. Same applies to option to prevent going landscape by tracking face movement when you lie on the bed.

I think it's possibly to limit any ARM-based core to a particular ABI it already supports, so technically they could run a Cortex-X2 in Armv8.2-a instead of Armv9 and honestly there's no performance differences either. There's only improvements in security (which I doubt are used and implemented by phone manufacturers).
But it's still true that it's highly unlikely they would do this and the Tensor 2 still likely has X1 cores.

                                  "only modest performance improvements"

So what? Stability seems more of a problem for Tensor chips.
                                  Probably #2 is less buggy.
