Pixel 7's Tensor 2 chipset might offer only modest performance improvements

22 June 2022
A bricked Pixel 7 Pro prototype was examined, which revealed the presence of a Cortex-A55 cores. This means no ARMv9 designs for the next Google chipset.

I have the 6Pro and I am happy with everything but the battery life. The camera is great, arguably the best overall I've seen. Google's computational photography is as good as it gets.

The rest is fine. Not as smooth as iOS, but smoother than most Androids. I don't really find any performance issues that need to be addressed.

The battery life sucks, at least compared to an iPhone 13 Max which has a smaller battery. I expected much better since Google has control over both the OS and the hardware, but nope. The battery life is the main disappointment with the Pixel 6 Pro.

The camera is one of the best out there, you have lots of features, you also can install anything you want. I can install lots of lunchers with different features, Samsung will never let you install lunchers and change from one to another, like on the pixels. The updates never broke anything in my phone, all my Google phones were really great. I had software and hardware problems with my galaxy phones (note 7 explosive battery and my s20plus was getting hot without even using it) . All the phones, laptops tablets have some software issues, I had many software issues on my iPhone Xs.

Georgi, 22 Jun 2022Pixels phones are one of the most featured packed phones , ... moreI've currently got a pixel 6 pro and it certainly is not a feature packed phone, not even close. The cameras aren't even feature packed and half of the "features" it does have don't work well at all. The stock pixel experience is boring aswell, no freedom with anything really, lacking in a lot of user experience ways and the wallpaper selector is terrible and frustrating to use.

Getting quicker updates isn't anything special, half the updates break more than they fix and generally every other manufacturer have created a better experience with android than Google themselves (literally seen no benefit to having quicker updates to essentially be beta testers with software, just like the hardware now with tensor).

So long as it's 4nm then it will bring improved battery life. Also faster gpu and isp and lddr5 ram and it will still be an improvement.

Flagship chips are all plenty fast these days. As long as user experience is smooth then numbers matter little.

Anonymous, 22 Jun 2022If person is enthusiast, then would never buy featureless phone. Pixels phones are one of the most featured packed phones , and if I don't have something, I can install it. You don't know what are you taking about. You also have the fastest OS updates from android world ,I had the mos expensive flagship phones from all the brands , Mr anonymous.

Might as well buy the Pixel 6 to save some money...

Google really need to switch to TSMC from Samsung, sooner the better.

If it is more efficient than it is great, flagship chip power is overkill anyway these days, specially for most tasks. More important is ISP, neaural core upgrades.

If they keeping the same IMX386 Ultra-Wide sensor though, it is going to be insane, knowing it was biggest weakness on Pixel 6, it is tiny 6 year old sensor without auto focus, bad in low light, extremely bad for video and also capped at 4K30FPS. It is okey for Pixel 6A, but not for 6 Pro and more importantly upcoming 7 Pro.

How do they know that is actually the Tensor 2 and not just the Tensor 1 used as placement in that prototype?

I'm pretty sure the engineering samples don't have the final specs. At least not yet. It's just too early in the year if you consider that your development cycle is only 12 months...

Pixel phones that have been the greatest expression of what is android in a phone:

-Pixel 3a (Just Black, Clearly White)
                                  -Pixel 4a (Just Black)
                                  -Pixel 5 (Just Black)
                                  -Pixel 6a (Sage)

The Pixel 3a was the first "budget" Pixel, it had 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, it was beautiful and very comfortable to hold in your hand being compact and light, the rear camera was just a black dot like on the iPhone 8 and still had the good 3.5mm headphone jack.

My favorite Pixel phone and my favorite phone of all time is the Pixel 5 in its Just Black colour, being compact, light and with a very beautiful and elegant square shaped camera island.

[deleted post]MediaTek is a Taiwanese company, same country that hosts the TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company).
