It comes with improved autofocus, and Smart-ISO Pro features for better HDR.

SuuperBaka, 23 Jun 2022When is Samsung going to reach 0.45 µm? They already beat t... moreI agree. As impressive as Samsung's cell isolation technology is, the fact that they keep using it only to shrink down the pixels even further and cram more useless pixels into a smaller form factor is simply depressing. The sensor has a lot to offer (Triple conversion gain and 14-bit HDR output mode are fascinating) but is clearly marred by their own pointless marketing stunt.

I'm definitely curious to see what Sony Semicon will be bringing to the table next year - The two-layer transistor structure is groundbreaking and could allow a signal-to-noise ratio comparable to Micro 4/3rd on a 1 inch or smaller sensor.

lonte bajingan, 23 Jun 2022really sad for Sony they can't catch samsung at this p... moresmall pixels are not a good thing, from the description it seems like it would be similar to a quad bayer where four of this pixels are merged into one, so the reality is a 50MP image.

only reason I suggest this is because is stated that every four pixels share one focusing lens on the sensor, but that also makes sense as the pixels are also very small and it would be very difficult for them to have a lens each.

"The industry’s smallest pixel" - Since when is this a reason to be proud of?
"The sensor can also shoot 8K videos in 30fps" - Who cares if their phones are still locked at 24fps for years, even if both cameras and processors can handle this?

SuuperBaka, 23 Jun 2022Higher resolution with decent pixel size, not smaller than ... moreSensor size and resolution was always a problem, buy being a phone, there is a little we can do. What can be done though is to use different approach than full frame cameras, use better sensor tech, stack multiple frames or hi res to low res, etc.
Considering output quality of small pixel size, its matter that Samsung got to solve, and if they do the better for mobile photography.
Sony tries to use the same approach as in their cameras, size first, but mobile photography is not about that, you can already see axon 40 ultra having similar colours to xperia despite using small pixels, but detail lvl is way different. A lot can be done even in color space with small pixels.
Small sensor size is great news for foldables, as most of brands are unable to bring construction like Huawei which is great for big sensors.
Even if all that was put aside, having 200mp camera is genius way how to advertise new phone, not like 12mp forever, at least for me its ancient resolution, with 16mp having better feeling for me and good stack of 64mp hires from quad Bayer being best, as I get to see every little details, unimaginable thing on 12mp.
It's great to see something fresh, new.

You'd be wrong about disregarding their cameras.
S22u replaced s21u's telephoto Samsung sensors for Sony sensors and guess what? It easily produces superior shots, even though the sensor is actually a bit smaller than Samsung's.

Why they refuse to make the same for their own flagships is a can of worms I don't want to open

Dumo19, 23 Jun 2022People saying which sensor... Well THAT SENSOR is already ... moreThere is no such thing as an RGB sensor outside of sigma foveon.

What the Nokia 808 has is a standard Bayer sensor with a rggb colour filter layout instead of a quad Bayer sensor.

The downside to such an approach is that you have a lot less light because the pixel size is smaller, whereas a quad Bayer combines four pixels for a virtual larger pixel which you cannot do with a standard Bayer sensor as the neighbouring pixels have a different colour filter.

People saying which sensor... Well THAT SENSOR is already invented:
-> Is the one in Nokia 808 Pure View.
-> 41MP RGB sensor no pixel binning shit.

Now take that sensor, put new upgrades of nowadays and the better ISP processors and you have the BEST sensor you could ever ask, and x3 losless zoom in single cam not having to carry 192319239 cameras on the back.

If you want a high-resolution sensor, go for a 50MP binned sensor, and you get high resolution and decent pixel size.

More pixels really means more data .. if you take a full 64mp picture on your smartphone Vs binned version the data size will be bigger on the full 64mp picture

This is why Qualcomm and mediatek etc have to go out of their way to build their ISP to handle higher res cameras extra pixels need more processing power

Not the same but somewhat similar is screen resolution rendering on YouTube a 1080p video will have more data than 720p
