When is Samsung going to reach 0.45 µm? They already beat the red wavelength, might as well go past green as well.

I'd much rather prefer Sony's new 2-layer transistor pixel technology than this marketing trash.

As both a Samsung and iPhone user, I do not care about the megapixel race, what I really want is to see the development of 1" sensors on more phones, cramming more Megapixels for the sake of it is just showing how stagnant the camera section has become on most smartphones, that being said, FFS iPhone give me more then 12mp, i would be happy with a high quality sensor of 1" shooting around 35mp which is enough for 8k video, better processing algorithms with more control over sharpening and contrast etc, better raw controls less gimmicky software tweaks, better colour accuracy, better dynamic range, I would even drop the wide angle lens and focus on a high quality telephoto lens to go along with that powerful main camera

Dunno, it seems to me that boasting of having the smallest pixel on a sensor is akin to boasting to have the smallest *insert male reproductive organ* .

In my relatives Motorola edge 30, ultrawide cam is samsung JN1 (0.64) pixel size and it does produce images like oil paintings and quality not good

JustSomeRandomGuy, 23 Jun 2022"Smallest ever pixels" why are they saying that a... moreI think the smaller the pixel the better the quality and sharpness but its at the cost of Dynamic range. They might have a work around for that, may be a hardware / software base solution.

Samsung and pho ne brands should take notes from decade old nokia 808 for how to use pixel binning with these types of sensor

It would have less expensive for samsung and better for user to have a sensor with same features except those tiny pixels and useless 200 mp number.

Now imagine a camera sensor with same size but a pixel size between 1.4 to 2 micron and megapixel count between 12 to 50 mp

Lccy, 23 Jun 2022Once again Samsung is claiming to be able to do both 4 in 1... moreNo, this has nothing to do with the Bayer array...
When they bin 4 pixels, then the result is inherently a 50 megapixel Quad Bayer sensor.
When they bin 16 pixels, the result is a 12.5 megapixel Bayer sensor.

But the point is that you won't get 200 megapixel images due to the microlenses, so it's actually not a 200 megapixel sensor in contrast to the Hp1. It's the same reason why 12 megapixel dual pixel Bayer sensors don't give you 24 megapixel images. The sensor of a Pixel 5 actually has 24 million 0.7micron x 1.4micron pixels. But a microlens covers an area of 1.4 micrometer x 1.4 micrometer and this changes the behaviour and resolution of the sensor fundamentally.

"Smallest ever pixels" why are they saying that as if it was some kind of achievement? pixels should be getting bigger not smaller!

Making ridiculous 1000 mp sensor with tiny 0.02 micropixels?
                            They're doing just fine.

really sad for Sony they can't catch samsung at this point, really slow company 🤦‍♂️

Samsung thought ChameleonCell marketing name clearly wasn't working so they just slapped another name onto it to make it sound new - Tetra^2Cell! The world's smallest pixel pitch is absolutely nothing to brag about, either. They could've just made a 50MP Tetracell sensor and called it a day, but that probably wouldn't have satisfied the marketing team, I suppose.

It does seem to introduce a set of new features though, namely a triple gain design that supports dual-gain HDR (Mid+Low during the day, High+Low in low light), 14-bit readout mode, and Super QPD (Similar to Sony's omnidirectional PDAF). Hopefully we'll be seeing these technologies on Samsung's other sensors soon as well.

The Bayer filter is hardware based, it's a physical colour filter layed on top of the pixels, it cannot be electronically altered regardless of brand or processing.
