Flashback: a decade of iPhone camera tech

12MP sensors as far as the eye can see. We kid, we kid. Apple actually brings new tech to iPhones, at least the Plus/Pro versions.

How many people shooting 8k videos constantly on their phone? How many people taking 108MP photos on their phone all the time?

For me, phone camera quality went way up by the Pixel 2 in 2017. Probably why Google used that same sensor for four generations knowing their computational photography was so good.

I did a camera comparison between my Pixel 3 vs. iPhone 12 mini and the Pixel 3 from 2 years prior won the still photos most of the time. I never found iPhone cameras to be that special. Always yellowish indoors.

Doas190, 26 Jun 2022Apple gymmick as always, same boring sensors but bigger app... moreDiameter of aperture also change with FL. They get larger with narrower FOV.
Tons of stuff involved, it is just trade f1.9 to f1.5 and automatic it is always better.

Apple gymmick as always, same boring sensors but bigger apperture to lower ISO in low light situations, besides this there is no innovation at all, all competitors still using 1.8/1.9F but with much bigger sensor size.

Would be nice if gsmarena no longer uses name Sensor Shift OIS.
It has nothing to do with OIS.

Pixel size decreased during early generations and there was no penalty.
Slap in the face of those that still think current sensors suffer from light loss if pixels are bit smaller.

Otherwise an APSC like Nikon D7500 (4.2 micron), would at night wipe the floor with a camera like A7r4 (3.76 micron). Sony has even FF with 102MP (not used yet) with 2.91 micro named imx555CQR

Anyway, iphone 14 Pro Max needs to have GG Victus or Victus+ on both sides, lenses from another supplier, be much lighter (no more than 200g).
