Apple ordered a custom glass composition for their phones and while it's made by Gorilla Glass and is fundamentally using same methods of producing glass, the composition isn't. They can call it Ceramic Shield or whatever name they feel like it, because they ordered a specific glass design from them that's not an off the shelf composition like GG5 or Victus that everyone else uses. If it's worse or better, that's debatable, but given the fact how people endlessly whined about shattering of glass on iPhones and how it seems to be more prone to scratches, this tells me they ordered a softer glass composition. Glass knows only two extremes. Soft glass scratches easily, but is harder to shatter. Harder glass composition is more resistant to scratches, but shatters easier. You can't ever have both at the same time. Finding the balance between each is the custom glass composition Apple uses for their Ceramic Shield.

It's not like we don't get what we paid for. I got exactly what I expected from iPhone and then some more. I went away from pathetic software support across basically all Android phones and I got exactly what I expected. Year after year of on time updates. The other one was just getting away from creepy Google. How are we "scammed"? Because we pay same price as for Android phones, but don't get spectacular, but ultimately useless big numbers on paper lol? How are we "scammed"? If I felt scammed, I wouldn't ever want another iPhone. Guess what, I felt scammed after owning every Android phone and I never had one from same company twice...

Like I said in a previous article: its more like half a decade of improvements because OIS sure took a while to arrive to iPhones.
And like in those days, their users are still scammed by Apple

Good thing not everyone have iphone, hi res stills and 8K would be still a dream.
They perform great at low res tho, just no excitement, boring stuff like sony.

Even 8+ with alluminum frame was already above 200g despite only 2691mAh battery.
Apple needs to redesign some components to make them lighter/smaller. Also decrease bit size of Pro Max, 78mm wide is too large.

Same reason Sharp R6 has bizarre 19mm single camera and not 24-27mm. Cam Bump for 1" would be as thick as the phone.

Where iPhones have always excelled is video recording. Many YouTubers use their iPhone to record themselves and then edit using Final Cut Pro. But for cameras? They've always been overrated in that area. The 7 Plus gave us Telephoto (or 2X optical zoom) but wide-angle from LG G5 that same year got adopted more. And Samsung surpassed Apple in that area by last year with the S21 Ultra.
Not one iPhone camera has ever impressed me and I got the iPhone 4 on launch day. People who tout it just happen to be iPhone users. From 2007-2015, most phone cameras were crap. The ones with the best camera circa 2010-2012 came from Nokia on Windows Phone. By 2016-2017, Google surpassed everyone in still photos. Then by 2021, Samsung surpassed everyone with digital zooming.
Apple has never been impressive in the camera except for video recording or taking bokeh or portrait shots. They lose in whatever lighting scenario to Google thanks to Pixel's superior contrasting. Isn't as yellowish. And then Apple loses to Samsung in taking shots from miles away. Like some woman changing near the window. Samsung makes perfect peeping Tom phones.

potato4k, 26 Jun 2022How many people shooting 8k videos constantly on their phon... moreThose 108mpx cameras exist for pixel bining most of the time, make a native 108mpx picture and often it is even worse than the binned one.
I prefer a good sensor, that can capture enough light with good software processing (looking at you Google) and OIS.
In my opinion phones like iPhones, Pixels (before series 6) and Sony can take amazing pictures in the right hands even with such simple cameras like 12mpx.
But in all honesty, if I had to pick one it would be Sony myself because I like to fiddle with settings to get the perfect picture.
For the other 99% of people iPhones and Pixels are great, but none of them is fully perfect it depends what you need.

Google their processing is amazing in short, but any Android phone could make great pictures if they used same tech as Pixels do.

But even then I rather have GG5 instead of VIctus or Victus+, the latter 2 are much more prone to scratches (speaking out of experience of myself and others)
As for the weight I agree the phones are way to hefty, but the only way to make them lighter is going Titanium (which will cause huge price hike) or Aluminum (which idiots will not call premium, but really steel is just TOO HEAVY)

Would have been nice to see a focal length comparison of the main sensor over the years, the 35mm equivalent focal length has been getting wider over the years like everyone else, however Apple has resisted going wider than 26mm unlike Samsung who have gone to 23mm
