Let's see what real-life shots are like, and not just the prone-to-be gamed DXOMark results. Despite all the hype, I felt that the Pixel 6Pro and the iPhone 13 Max both produced noticeably more consistent photos in the semi-dark restaurant environment I tried them in. I actually like MIUI best, as it seems to apply iOS to Android successfully while providing nice flexibility, but it has always been a bit too buggy for me. Not that the Pixel 6Pro I ended up getting has been bug-free :(

as the article said, Sony did use 1 inch sensor but it's cropped off. but as per digital chat station, Xiaomi is using uncropped 1 inch sensor, fully utilising the sensor which is the highest tech ever brought to the mobile photography

The natural assumption is that the unit used here is an optical format that has been used among various smartphone companies for years, and it's not Xiaomi's fault that there's a discrepancy between this format and the physical diagonal lengths of image sensors.

[deleted post]wish sony sold their pro-i to indonesia so i dont have to worry about oil painting photos, other android phones tend to look like oil painting even in 1080p. sadly they didnt. thanks to vivo and oppo made inferior low end phones for stupid clueless people. their flagships dont have an headphone jack while sonys have.

I'll say it as a current iPhone owner - to put it bluntly, iPhones are much easier to s*** on for Android manufacturers because the numbers on their spec sheets are lower in many areas compared to high-end Android phones (even if iPhones deliver quality somewhere else to make up for them). It's easier to say iPhone is worse due to the lower display resolution, lower battery capacities, lower screen-to-body ratio, smaller camera sensors and so on. BBK phones are much more evenly spec'd to Xiaomi's offerings; for instance, it would be much more difficult for Xiaomi to show how much superior 12S Ultra is compared to, let's say, X80 Pro or upcoming X80 Pro+.

"At least it is better than mi11 ultra 4s shutter vs rx100 1/16s shutter"
Even if you used the same shutter speed for both devices, RX100 VII would be significantly worse due to less light intake in a dark environment.

Nick Tegrataker, 30 Jun 2022"Colour science is right or wrong" A joke of the... moreSharpness is a combination of two factors: resolution and acutance. Resolution is straightforward and not subjective. It's just the size, in pixels, of the image file. All other factors equal, the higher the resolution of the image—the more pixels it has—the sharper it can be.

Sharpening is irreversible; also save unsharpened originals whenever possible. RAW & TIFF files respond much better to sharpening than JPEG files, since the former preserve more detail. Furthermore, sharpening may amplify JPEG compression.

"Sharpening is bad and should not even be used unless to improve quality of very old stuff"
I guess that's why ALL phone and camera manufacturers apply a noticeable amount of sharpening to straight-out-of-camera JPEGs by default.

Anonymous, 30 Jun 2022This phone gonna use 23mm, saw on weiboThere is far too much perspective distortion with a 23mm equivalent lens unless you're shooting landscapes or architecture. When you factor in the 4:3 aspect ratio, a 3:2 35mm camera would require a 20mm lens for the same perspective.

The fact is a phone is a phone and not a dedicated camera, photography is going to be compromised, if you want a more normal focal length, you'll have to sacrifice light like ZTE or have a massive bump, or if you want light, you'll have to have an ultra wide lens.

With modern flagships, there is nothing in between the 23mm main camera and the 50 or 75mm cameras which have much smaller sensors.

Nick Tegrataker, 30 Jun 2022Yet your comment was not relevant to what I was talking about.Uuuum, yes it was relevant. You were talking how Xiaomi was showing the size of sensors... With images of how 1" is suppose to be the diagonal of the CMOS sensor... which it most certainly isn't true, in fact it's complete BS. The Xiaomi's showcase of it, not your statement.

There are over 200,000 reviews for the Xiaomi 11 ultra (jd.com) on the website I was referring to from real purchasers and as I was considering buying the phone because of the price reduction to 3,399rmb (about $510) in the 618 sale in China I went through a lot of the more recent consumer reviews and noticed quite a few comments saying what I posted in my original comment about the cameras. Whether purchasers who said this are just imagining it or just saying it coz they aren't satisfied with their purchase I don't know. However, the fact that some purchasers are saying this is absolutely true.

Maybe 15-20% more for countries like India and some other Asian countries where taxes are lower. However, in Europe VAT, which goes to the goverment, averages around 20% and that must be charged before there is any mark up by the company for the extra costs. Therefore, it would typicall be 40-50% more expensive in Europe (20% for government taxes and around 20-30% for the extra costs or higher profit margins required to make it worthwhile selling) which would make it very expensive.
